I was playing some competitive earlier and had a teammate with the Developer tag. Was kinda cool, had never seen that before - but doesn't mean they get special treatment. Still just a regular dude. Barely five seconds into the game, people take notice to the tag and comment on it. One dude on the other team brazenly calls the developer the n-word - hard r. Honestly, the pure boldness of the insult made me laugh, and I said so in chat. Developer says something like "why would you say that" to the guy, and they have a back and forth. Dude eggs him on to ban him and says he can't do anything. I imagine Developer wasn't in a very good mood.
Game goes on, we're down by 4, and the other guy is still going ham in chat because he's winning. At this point, I'm honestly getting annoyed with the Developer because 4 minutes into the game, he had a score of 12, and at some points wasn't even playing the game, was sitting idle for one of his kickoffs, and when he was playing, he was cutting me off for boost. I say something tongue-in-cheek like "bro could you stop coding mid-game and help out please" - admittedly a little toxic, but not calling him the n word or anything like the other dude. He says something like "why are you being toxic," game gets forfeited and that was the end of it. Or so I thought.
Just hopped on a few hours later and noticed I had a cooldown on my chat. Thought "huh, weird" and then tried to type something.
"Your chat is permanently restricted."
Had no warning message of any kind on RL start-up, and I've only received a chat ban once before. Seems like an abuse of power that someone can literally give you a permanent silent chat ban for making a comment about their play - especially given how light it was. And on an account that I've spent over a thousand hours on, no less.
