Recent Updates:

March 26th

Hello everyone,

With the Beta in full swing, we wanted to check in with a couple of updates on the latest happenings from today.

Calling All Beta Testers: Please Come Test Again!

If you're a current Beta participant, we'd love for you to return today to check some new improvements we've just made to our restoration work! This work introduces a variety of refinements to our telemetry translations based on your feedback so far and we're looking to check that work with all of you once more, even if your account was exactly as you expected. Please head to the private Beta Discord server for all the info on recommended areas to test.

Servers at the Ready

Yesterday's maintenance of our RuneScape servers also allowed us to introduce new functionality that will allow us to restore and return your accounts into the live game once restoration work has completed. This functionality is now in place, ready and waiting for us to begin this process!

Next Steps From the Beta

As we get to the closing stages of the Beta, we'd love for you to join us for a special Livestream tonight at 17:00 Game Time over at Twitch.tv/RuneScape. We'll give you a rundown of our learnings from the Beta so far, things we're working on and - most importantly - what's next in the process. We hope you can join us.

Thanks again to everyone who's helped in the Beta so far - you've been amazing.

- The RuneScape Team

March 25th

Following on from a busy few days, our teams are now sending out a 5th wave of invitations for the Account Integrity Beta.

As before, please check your inboxes to see if you've received an invitation.

We'd like to once again thank everyone who's gotten involved and helped our teams out during this week. We look forwards to sharing more news soon!

March 24th

We've just sent out our 4th wave of invitations to take part in the Account Integrity Beta.

To check if you've been invited, please look out for an email from us asking you to take part. Not had anything? The Beta will continue until Friday with further invitations expected to be sent out between now and then, so keep your eyes peeled for more news!

As usual thank you for your patience and support. We'll be back with more news as soon as we have it!

- The RuneScape Team

March 24th

Following on from the success of yesterday's Account Integrity Beta launch, the team are now extending invitations to a third wave of participants.

Invitations are being sent by email, so please check your inboxes to see if you've been invited to take part. Not seeing anything? The Beta will continue until Friday with further invitations expected to be sent out before its conclusion, so keep your eyes peeled for more news and opportunities.

Thank you all for your patience. We'd also like to extend additional thanks to all the amazing help and support Beta participants have shown so far. We look forward to sharing more news off the back of the Beta soon!

- The RuneScape Team

March 23rd

The Account Integrity Beta is now underway, and a select group of players are able to log in to a secure environment to help us assess the current restoration process.

Following on from the first wave of Account Integrity Beta invitations that we sent out yesterday, we're now sending out additional invitations as part of the second wave. Please check your emails to see if you've been invited to take part.

This is will be the second wave of invitations. Additional waves will be sent out at a later date, so check back soon for more news!

March 22nd

Hello everyone,

We hope you've been well these past few days. Here's the latest on our efforts to get impacted players back in the game.

Account Integrity Beta

The Account Integrity Beta is on track and will begin tomorrow morning at 09:00 Game Time! We're going to be sending out access details to our first wave of testers shortly, with more test waves to be invited throughout the week. If you received an email on Friday, your account has been identified as a potential candidate to receive access - but it's not a guarantee. Keep an eye on that inbox!

Anyone invited will be asked to log in to a special Beta environment to examine their own account extensively and let us know how they feel about the quality of the restoration. We're hoping to see lots of positive feedback, but we do want to stress that we expect outliers - and anything we find, good or bad, will be used to benefit the telemetry translation quality for all players.

If you’re involved, here’s a big thank you in advance for taking part!

Restoration Progress

We’ve also been developing additional information gathering tools and massively speeding up our data regeneration processes. This will help us continue to make quicker refinements for all impacted accounts in case we have any improvements to make based on Beta feedback.

Game Updates

Last Friday evening, we made a change in our plans to release the Rex Matriarch combat content this week. This decision was based on the feedback from impacted and active players alike that we should avoid major content updates while the situation is ongoing. Shout-out to everyone who voiced your feelings on this one.

In Mod Warden's message about the change in direction, we also mentioned that we know that the delay of major game content releases should not come at the cost of any content plans for the year.

Currently, we have a Game Update in testing that does not include Rex Matriarchs but does include the Mod Pi-Mas combat improvements as well as our new Easter seasonal event. Since the Easter event is time-specific, we will be releasing this Game Update as planned next Monday.

If you're an impacted player and we don't have you back in game by the time the event starts, we’ll be sure to include any missed items in the welcome back package to make up for any lost time.

That's it from us today as we continue our final Beta preparations and begin the final stage before we restore all accounts. We'll keep you up to date on progress throughout the week. Thank you for your patience while we got to this crucial stage of the project.

- The RuneScape Team

March 19th

Hey 'Scapers,

Thanks to all of you who joined us for our stream and have been responding throughout this evening following the news of our decision to return major game content beginning on Monday.

We hear you. And that's why, as of tonight, we've pushed out our plans to bring back major content releases.

What we've seen tonight is a spirit among so many of you - impacted or not - that you want to stand shoulder to shoulder together with your fellow citizens and enjoy major content releases at the same time. I got this call wrong and thank you for letting us know how you feel.

However, reflecting on this situation, we also know it's important to the community that any decision to delay major game content releases does not come at the cost of any content plans for the year. This is a balance we'll be bearing in mind and we've seen some great suggestions from all of you on where we can potentially draw that line.

We don't have all the answers in the here and now - we just changed plans after all! - but we will at least hold the release of Rex Matriarchs until further notice. Thanks for all your passionate responses and we'll talk about this in more detail next week.

All the best,

Mod Warden

March 19th

Hello everyone,

In case you missed today's livestream, we wanted to let you know about some of the bigger news we shared regarding our progress for the Login Lockout.

Before we go any further, we really can't stress enough just how much we continue to empathise with all who are impacted by this. This has been a longer process than we initially anticipated, and even when it feels like we're not updating you on progress, there's always a metric ton of work being done behind the scenes to get you playing again.

Thank you once again for bearing with us through this hugely complex process.

Account Integrity Beta

After a week of testing, learning, iterating and improving, we are now able to lock in the date for the start of the Account Integrity Beta: Tuesday, March 23rd.

This critical step is the culmination of everything we've been working towards this week, as real players check their own accounts to verify the quality of the restoration work.

In this Beta, a small number of impacted users will initially be invited to log-in to a Beta World and check over their account in detail, providing feedback via a survey. We'll be using this to guide any required fixes or refinements to our telemetry data translation before we then expand the pool to more players - and then repeat the process. The first set of invitation emails have just been released.

In order to gather the level of feedback we need, the Beta will last for four days - running from Tuesday, March 23rd until Friday, March 26th. Depending on the results and the feedback, this process may be extended. This does mean, unfortunately, we can confirm that accounts won't be returned to you next week as the team goes through these quality checks.

What We'll Do To Make This Right

We intend to provide all impacted players with a significant in-game gift package focused on helping you make up for lost time, while also recognising the incredible patience and fortitude you've all shown us. While we want to treat all players as equally as possible, we will of course be looking at any fringe cases accounts where we need to do more.

Essentially, if anything we do doesn't put the situation right for you, we'll have open support channels for you to talk directly to us.

We'll confirm all the details of our make-good plans in full once we have a confirmed return date for your accounts. All of this will be in addition to any actions we've already taken, like covering any membership or RuneMetrics subscriptions on impacted accounts for the next 31 days, and committing to an extension of events like Yak Track and Vic The Trader.

Return of Game Updates

Now that we've reached a point where all accounts are ready for validation and we're shifting to more of a testing phase, we can finally return some technical resource to the team without impacting the speed of our recovery efforts.

This means Game Updates will begin to return this Monday with the release of Rex Matriarchs!

We know plenty of you out there have been eagerly awaiting the return of our updates, and we've got some great content lined up in the weeks ahead.

To all our impacted players - please know that above all else, you remain our number one priority. We'll be mindful of any content launches you miss out on due to the Login Lockout, and we'll take that into account when we finally put things right wherever possible.

Thank you again to everyone reading this - we know it hasn't been easy, but we are getting closer to the end of this journey. With everyone heads down working over the weekend to get the Beta out on Tuesday, we don't expect to have any major updates to share over the next day or two, so you'll hear from us next on Monday as we prepare for the Beta launch.

Until then, take care.

- The RuneScape Team

March 18th

Hello everyone,

We have a few new updates to share today as we head towards the end of the week, including details of our next livestream.

Membership Time Covered

As our work to restore your accounts has continued, we've been increasingly aware of the impact to accessing your membership. We also know there is a genuine worry that your membership is ticking away or that the next billing cycle is right around the corner.

As an interim step, we're going to be covering any membership or RuneMetrics subscription on impacted accounts for the next 31 days. This will prevent any auto billing charges in the near future and, at a minimum, ensure everyone gets any lost membership time covered by us. This will go into effect tonight.

We hope this helps provide some measure of relief for your concerns, and please know this is just a small part of what we will do to make things right for those impacted.

New Information is on the Way

As of this evening, development has reached a point where we will be ready to bring you some of those meaningful updates we've promised. We'll provide all the latest news first in our weekly livestream, which will be held this Friday, March 19th at 17:00 Game Time.

We'll also provide more information about the Account Integrity Review Beta. Lastly, we'll answer your most pressing questions regarding the Login Lockout issue, our intentions to do right by impacted players, and the return of regular Game Updates.

More Accounts Protected

Earlier today, we disabled log in permissions for additional accounts impacted by the Login Lockout. All identified accounts are now protected and in the desired state for us to proceed with the Restoration work. If you are part of this group, you should now see an error message reading "Invalid email or password" and "Your account may currently be protected pending restoration". If you didn't receive an email before being locked out, don’t panic – we can assure you that your account is in safe hands.

From all of us here, thank you once again for your patience. We will be back tomorrow with further updates.

To clarify, this post doesn't contain new news right now, I was simply reposting the old thread with improved formatting to help make it easier to navigate.

We do hope to share more news soon though.

Hi 'Scapers,

We hope you are all doing well out there. We wanted to let you know that we'd had a late change in plans for today's Livestream and, as a result, we'll unfortunately be postponing it until later this week.

We've made this decision as we want to reach a point where we can provide a meaningful update beyond what we've already said. Out of respect for every player's time, we feel like going ahead today would be the wrong thing to do.

The Weekly Livestream will go ahead later this week, just as soon as we have that meaningful information to share. We'll confirm a date and time for that when we know for sure.

Working with this many moving parts within a system that's not really designed for it is challenging - and while we've made some significant progress and improvements already, there's still ongoing work to refine all the rough edges that can occur. The Beta is a quality check on all this work, and we need the focus of that to be on finding any further issues than ones we've already identified to fix.

Our sincere thanks go out to all of you for bearing with us through this stage of the project. The answers you seek are coming, but we just need a little more time to get there. We'll be back with more as soon as we can.

That's something we're talking about at the studio right now with the shift in livestream plans. We know you'd like to hear about that sooner rather later.

please just give us some light at the end of the tunnel, all it feels like is mods are avoiding us now, lack of visibilty in chats, avoiding questioms, avoiding any real updates..... all points to you guys really have no idea whats happening

what is the actual point

It would be a major surprise if we didn't have a Livestream this week. We only want to avoid a date in case any more shifting sand moments happen.

In terms of what's going on, it's not a case of not knowing what's happening, but rather the fact that there's not always a significant thing to share every day despite us trying to be transparent as we can on a daily basis.

Development is a forever shifting beast, especially when you step into the unknown with a project like this, and what you are seeing is the result of that process where new things emerge. There's a lot of hard work going on and everyone wants to get the answers you want out there - just today isn't that day quite yet.

On 22nd, which will be the earliest one can expect people to get back in (unrealistic), people will have been locked out for 18 days. With this statement of yours that "you don't have answers now so livestream postponed", makes me think that account access won't be restored before 29th. You lot pretty much delay everything by a week because "weekly update". That will be 25 days, 25 f**king days that people will have been locked out. How is this acceptable in 2021?

Continuing to thank us for our "patience" only goes so far. How the f**k is it taking so long if it's just 1% of the accounts. At this point that number is just a straight up lie. f**king imagine how long it would have taken if it was more than the "1%" number that you claim. People would be locked out for months.

The time this is taking isn't about the number of accounts involved, but the fact we're using telemetry to fill those data gaps we talked about. It's taking something not designed for that purpose and completely reshaping it.

The reason this is taking as long as it is because of how complex it is to do that - after all the investigation, we've been building brand new tools, processes, data profiling, QA processes and a Beta environment. If you exclude the investigation time, that's all been done in just a week.

We are doing everything we can to make this happen as soon as possible, and when our Livestream rolls around later this week, we'll be talking about progress in a much much more meaningful way than we could today.

We haven't made that decision yet, it's still provisional at this stage.

The full focus is on the Beta work that's ongoing right now. These are the kind of answers we want to have for you before any stream takes place, and we still need some more development work until we're at that point.

So it sounds like the compensation won't be in communication with the players, it will be a decision made in a board room and sent out. There will be no opportunity for players to provide feedback that the compensation is in any way appropriate.

Sorry, to be clear, I was referring to how we get the discussion of our current thinking / intentions out there when it comes to what we do for impacted players, as we intended to cover that today.

It may still happen on the stream this week, earlier, or both - that's the bit we're discussing.

Let me get this right, the devs have been putting in a lot of hours, making good progress on the beta and internal account restoration for the past week or so, but you still dont have anything meaningful to share with the playerbase?

Is the restoration that much more difficult than expected? Are things in a worse state than you are saying? Does that mean we wont be able to login for another week or two (at best)?

" and said they if your account is affected this would show up along with the invalid password but this shows up no matter what you try in to the username/password fields so its not easing the mind of any players while we are left in the dark trying to find out if we are part of this lockout or hacked.

Can you drop your RSN name here? We're already investigating some reports of this with Player Support so it would be a massive help!

I also sent some emails over the last 2 weeks regarding my account being locked, and those have never been responded to, I haven't even been graced with automatic messages.

What was your issue? We can see if we can help from our end.

I have to think you guys know the answer to this. Surely you know what’s going in an update that is less than a week away. You are either putting all your efforts into fixing the login issue or have diverted some people to work on upcoming releases. You know the answer to that, you just aren’t ready to share that answer. And maybe you, Hooli, don’t know and are just the unfortunate messenger. But certainly other folks at Jagex know the answer to this.

The potential update for March 22nd has been done for a while as it's the same update we had planned two weeks ago, albeit with some final release testing required. Because of that, we can be pretty flexible based on where everything is.

It really is provisional though - our priority remains everyone who can't play and we can't make definitive decisions until we lock our Beta date. We're not complete on testing just yet so we just don't know at this point.

Our Player Support team are still supporting a live game and that's a question about a live feature, so that's to be expected.

Our Player Support team are going to email any critical updates we have as soon as we have them, but there's not really much 1-1 support to offer beyond what we've been saying here at this time. It's not a reflection of priorities or care in any way if that helps.

The stream timing is all based on when we have those meaningful updates ready to share, so we still don't know as yet. As soon as we have those from the development process, we'll be putting it together as quickly as we can.

Hello everyone,

We're continuing our preparation work for the Restoration Phase. Tomorrow we will continue to disable log in permissions for additional accounts impacted by the Login Lockout. This will ensure these accounts are protected when we proceed with the restoration work.

We'll send an email and an inbox message to all players in this position over the next few minutes – please also check your Junk folder as we’ve had a few reports of emails winding up there. Please note that not every player impacted by the Login Lockout will have their log in permissions disabled – this is a precautionary measure for a limited number of accounts.

On the development front, we are continuing to prep for the Account Integrity Beta. We’re continuing to home in on the translation of telemetry data into account profile data as we bring more and more accounts into testing. We're seeing better results by the day, but things are still progressing steadily. That said, we do want to reassure you that both our livestream and the meaningful update we’ve been promising will come sometime this week.

Until then, take care of yourselves and we'll be back with more information as soon as we have it.

Just those in the new 'wave' of accounts going through the lock will get the email, so it's expected you didn't get one.

Only people who are being manually locked will get one - some accounts need this as an added layer of protection while we do the restoration work so they can't log in before we've completed all the various elements.

When can we expect any actual communication? I was locked out 2 days ago instead of 2 weeks ago and I'm already going insane, I don't want to know how others are feeling

We can only communicate detail when we have it to share, as frustrating as we know that is to hear. We're in a development situation dealing with new techniques, tooling, service requirements and a ton more beyond that where everyone is moving as fast as possible.

Every day we are learning new things about the process, improving, and getting more accounts restored for testing. I can promise you there's a huge amount of time, passion and energy going into this - even if every day you aren't playing doesn't feel that way - but it's simply incredibly complex to pull off. By the day, we're seeing better and better results.

What we want to ensure is, when we get to Beta, we're really confident in the quality of the restoration work and all we're mostly just finding with players testing their accounts are outlier cases (or none at all).

The meaningful update we've promised is coming, it's just taking a little longer than we had hoped. We really do appreciate how much that isn't the news everyone wants, but we need to make sure we do this right - and we will make it up to anyone impacted.

Likely going this route to avoid our warranted complaints.

We haven't posted today's update today yet, I'm not sure why the Bot did that. We'll get that fixed (and make sure we keep posting natively to Discord).

On the communication front, we're saying as much as we can - we're just at a phase in development where it's about getting it done before we can say what's next. The information is coming.

Update @ 19:30 Game Time, March 18

Covering the charges for the next 31 days is nice but mine already charged me a week ago. This also seems like a bit of foreshadowing in terms of how long this is actually going to take. We have no idea though, because nobody will give a timeline. Either way, looking forward to tomorrow.

Although it doesn't help you already being charged, you'll still get your 31 days free right after your current paid month ends - so you won't see a charge next month if that helps.

In terms of the timing of the 31 days, we picked this amount of time purely for peace of mind we hope it offers compared to something shorter. There's no relation to timelines or anything.

Bringing us to 29th March as the earliest possible date (IMO) when people will be able to get back in. 29th March is 25 days of people being locked out. In 2021. Biggest f**kup of the gaming industry this year? This decade? In my admittedly limited knowledge, I haven't heard of any game where people were literally prevented from playing for 25 days.

I think the biggest question that remains now, is what is jagex doing to ensure this never, and I mean never happens again in the lifetime of the company?

We've already fixed the series of issues that even allowed this to happen, and as soon as we have everyone back in game, we have plans to smash any chance of anything like this happening again.

It's an unprecedented issue and we plan to keep it that way.

This is just a step we can take today to assure you membership time will be returned and no charges will take place from today while the issue is active.

Would you like us to quantify exactly how much GP we lost out on? I can tell you from the easy dailies alone it's at least 20m, probably a lot more when you start to factor in the animals I'm not selling and the occasional bosses I'm not killing. Unless the action taken is seriously compelling I'm probably going to cancel members and be done with RS, I just don't think I'll ever be able to trust the time investment again when Jagex actually, seriously, continues to hide behind obviously ridiculous statistics like "1% of players affected" when the vast majority of accounts are inactive. You're going to have to be very creative with what you do to make it right, because if all you do is give free spins and some random other garbage it's not going to be enough. This could actually kill your game, even more than EOC did.

We will be doing much more than this for anyone impacted. This is just something we can do today that we hope puts a few concerns at rest.

Once we know the confirmed return date for accounts, we'll be able to lock our plans for how we'll make this right and tell you all about it.

It does, but it will be 31 days of standard Membership at the end of your current subscription in this case. Hope that answers your question.

Right now it's 31 days of standard Membership added to the end of your subscription since this is an interim step.

We'll pass the feedback to the team though to consider.

The Beta will give us a much better picture so we can't talk in definitives just yet, as much as we'd love to.

The reassurance I can offer though is we are committed to offering support if anything isn't right when you get your account back. This won't be a release and done situation by any means.

Thank you for the reply, /u/JagexHooli. To elaborate on my question, does the team have snapshot data of our accounts on March 4th to correlate with what we identify as missing after the Restoration phase?

Telemetry is a form of data that's about as up to date as you can get, so essentially yes. The challenge has been how we translate that properly to be usable as account data rather than just information.

The Beta will be a great way to verify the testing we've done at scale (this is why we've been so focused on doing one), and if anything isn't as it should be, support will be there to help further.

Just as a report on that front, I have still experienced crashes since in the last couple of weeks. They have been less frequent than they were previously, at least. I know the client crashed were a concern previously and that this takes priority but I thought I’d report it since you can’t report them in-game.

Thanks for the report! Our engineering team are full force on this right now as you mentioned, but we are planning to address remaining client crashes asap after we have people playing.

We're still very confident in the solution we have! It's just the Beta will be a sense check that our thinking is right and then we can talk definitively.

Update @ 18:00 Game Time, March 19th

This means Game Updates will begin to return this Monday with the release of Rex Matriarchs.

Just to be clear, what that meant was it wouldn't just be something like keys. We mentioned it in our update today a little better - we're looking at a significant in-game gift package focused on helping you make up for lost time, while also recognising the incredible patience and fortitude you've all shown us.

The make up for lost time bit includes thinking about XP gains etc.

The issue is only to do with RS3. Sorry to hear you've been in this spot.

At bare minimum they should implement some way for us to stack and do all the dailies we missed out on.

That's very much not the case, we're just saying we have to consider the differences in account types in what we do and make sure everyone is taken into account in some way.

We haven't defined what we're doing for sure yet, so if you have any feedback on what you'd like to see on your Ironman, please do let us know and we can pass it on for consideration in the planning.

Hi /u/JagexHooli, thank you for the livestream. I just have a couple of questions:

1) As you stated that the Beta will start next Tuesday, will invited players be notified via e-mail? There remains the unfortunate issue that several affected players still aren't receiving e-mail updates. Is there any way to check if our e-mails are on a designated list? Alternatively, will we just simply know we were selected if we can just log-in or do invited players have to "opt in?"

2) Secondly, I understand that it's difficult to establish a timeline at the moment but will the information from Beta elucidate a timeline, possibly as early as Tuesday depending on player feedback that day?

  1. They will. We've been looking into those emails still - the team are really focused on a lot of stuff right now but it is on their radar. We'll mention this.
  2. We mentioned this in the post, but we're not expecting to be in a place to return accounts next week to be honest with you. The Beta runs until Friday, at which point we'll have a better picture of where we're at. This is the last hurdle though before returning accounts.

I like how they admitted live on stream that they have no idea how their game works internally.

It's actually more we didn't know how applying telemetry - which is data logging what you are doing in the game across almost everything you do - would work translated into filling the data gaps we're facing.

Telemetry isn't designed to do this and it's all proprietary theory based work to make it functional account data - which is why we've faced some tough challenges along the way. That's more what Warden was talking about.

Update @ 20:55 Game Time, March 19th

Sharing on behalf of Mod Warden:

Mod Warden

If you got that email, it essentially means there's a chance you'll be invited to the Beta as it progresses. Not everyone got this.

It's not a guarantee of an invite, but we want to make sure any candidates have an eye on their inbox next week.

Hard disagree on this decision, considering that unaffected players are STILL dealing with extended delays in major content. EVERY player has a right to be upset about the situation, and should receive some sort of compensation.

I suggest 2 sets of cosmetics/titles, bare minimum. One for those that were locked out, and one for those that weren't. Even if they're just a recolor/ an opposite title.

At least then everyone is getting something, making it exclusive to one group would be a poor move.

EDIT: It would also be against the spirit of "Community Unity" you're trying to foster here. Doubly poor move at that point.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. This one isnt easy and divided a lot of opinions. I will discuss it with the team though.

It's on our radar to look at. The email situation, especially with settings you can't access, is an odd one.

One small update on this - the emails were are sending are service based emails, which means the Opt In status doesn't have an impact.

We know some of you are not receiving emails though and it's an ongoing conversation - but not being able to Opt In through your account shouldn't prevent this!

Update @ 18:15 Game Time, March 22

Hello everyone,

We hope you've been well these past few days. Here's the latest on our efforts to get impacted players back in the game.

Account Integrity Beta

The Account Integrity Beta is on track and will begin tomorrow morning at 09:00 Game Time! We're going to be sending out access details to our first wave of testers shortly, with more test waves to be invited throughout the week. If you received an email on Friday, your account has been identified as a potential candidate to receive access - but it's not a guarantee. Keep an eye on that inbox.

We've made huge progress with them. We had some hit the mark pretty much out of the box, some had areas for improvement. That was a really good thing for us though, as the ones that emerged with a few issues have informed a bunch of improvements to how we translate telemetry data into account data.

They proved to be a great 'canary in the coalmine' as Mod Warden says, and all of them are in a really good place today.

The Beta will really let us know if that work has paid off when you spread that to a lot more accounts. With the scale of data we're interpreting, this is a really good opportunity for us to identify anything else and make refinements - or to confirm we're in a good place.

It's an event with earnable currency involved yeah.

Basically what we're saying is, if you join the event late in any way, we're going to make sure to include plenty of the earnable currency to kick off your return based on the number of days missed (if any).

There's no restrictions on discussing the Beta - anyone involved is participating in making sure our restoration work is the best it can be, so we didn't feel there was any need to stifle people sharing their experiences. Any issues or unexpected things that crop up all inform improvement too.

I'm sure you'll see some comments over the next few days as the Beta grows in size especially.

Hi JagexHooli, I have question about the beta test, is it required from us to remember every single detail we had from feb8 to 4 march?

The more you remember the better for sure, but you won't need to remember every aspect of your account.

If you're invited, we just ask you do your best to go through the account and spot anything that feels out of place (or that everything is as expected!).

Judging by the amount of people that actually posted on Reddit or the Discord server saying they received an invite (zero), don't expect a single message on this. It's almost as if they only selected players that don't come here.

The waves will be pretty frequent and grow in size, so that should change over the next few days.

I asked during the livestream but it got swallowed up by spam - out of curiosity (I didn't receive a beta invite, no big deal), are things like quests/tasks things in question too? Or are those some of the easier things to recover? I feel like completing a quest would send a "signal" or something to the telemetry data (if I understand it correctly) so they shouldn't be lost. Is that a correct assumption? Thanks for the continued hard work, Hooli.

They are yes, though telemetry data is being used to make sure that's captured too!

Hi /u/JagexHooli, I'm curious, will any progress made by Beta accounts be kept (such as if players decided to level a skill once logging into their account) and will all Beta accounts be re-locked once the Beta ends this Friday?

No progress will be saved as the Beta accounts are copies of the Live savegames, not the Live save itself (and we also wanted to make sure Beta attendees didn't get advantages over other impacted players).

All Beta accounts will be re-locked once the Beta completes.

There's no agreements, restrictions or NDAs for this Beta. I'm sure you'll hear from Beta participants as the week goes on, especially given the size of the waves invited will increase.

We will talk a little bit about the Beta so far at the start of today's stream though.

If you ever restore my account Jagex I don't think that I will be returning (even though I spent a heap of money on MTX in prep for double exp and still have over 400 keys sitting there... or don't because apparently my account doesn't "exist"

I'm so damn angry that this hasn't been resolved yet.

Rant over!

Hi Aussie - we recently added 31 days to impacted accounts. When did you get billed? We may be able to help.

I appreciate that Hooli. I got billed 7 days ago. I don't mean to be rude but I don't have faith that my account will be reactivated before the new membership runs out... why can't you add the membership when you reactivate the account? Would be a shame that you resolve the issue and reactivate the account with 2 days left of that bonus compensation membership.

The Membership we've added already is just an interim step to cover the Membership time spent not playing and to make sure more implicated players aren't charged during this time. We're considering a lot of options when it comes to the actual welcome back package and we'll pass this feedback on too!

If you'd like us to reach out to you and see if we can do something about your early billing, can you reply with your RuneScape Display Name?

If you'd prefer to cancel and can't log in, this link can help you can get support if that's the route you'd like to take: https://support.runescape.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360000991618-Cancel-Recurring-Subscription-

Hope that helps you Aussie.

Following on from yesterday's Account Integrity Beta launch, the team are now extending invitations to a third wave of participants.

Invitations are being sent by email, so please check your inboxes to see if you've been invited to take part.

Not seeing anything? The Beta will continue until Friday with further invitations expected to be sent out before it's conclusion, so keep your eyes peeled for more news and opportunities.

Thank you all for your patience. We'd also like to extend additional thanks to all the amazing help and support Beta participants have shown so far. We look forward to sharing more news off the back of the Beta soon.

Oh wow this is a disaster, this 1 to 1 support is going to be a joke how can we remember all the stuff we are missing, my t90 stuff has been perked for years and I for sure don’t remember what perks they were... everyone is just going to lie about what’s missing so I’m struggling to see how this is going to end well

Nothing is confirmed as yet. It's a Beta and these are known issues that are being worked on.

If we have lost all our perks, which means Jagex doesn't have telemetry data for perks, I would fully expect we get dozens of each rare component. Unless you can track everyone's perks, having 1 to 1 care will lead to people lying about their perks to get more free rare comps.

I'm an ironman with biting 4, carooming 4, and other near bis perks that I had to farm myself. Unless you can restore all my perks, the minimum we deserve are free rare comps dozens of each at the very least. Also, some people may have spent billions on theirs, which complicates matters since they may have spent money on hundreds of each rare comps.

This is just where we are at this point in the Beta, where we are still working on solutions to known issues. Nothing is confirmed yet.

As with everything, if anything isn't restored as expected, we will be able to help with our aftercare support if needed. But at this stage, it's too early to say if a resolution to that known issue isn't possible. We're looking into every option and it's a top of mind thing for us to keep working on.

Hey Hooli,

will the restoration phase take as long as the beta? Or will the restoration go quickly once the beta is optimized?

Right now it's expected that the restoration of accounts - once that call is made - will be a very quick phase. Deployment isn't expected to be a challenge. That said, this is all new territory and techniques so please don't take that as definitive information just yet.

The real time remaining question is the Beta, and this is why we have this phase - not just to find any additional fixes or improvements we can make, but also to see how players feel about the quality of the restoration work at scale.

Like we mentioned yesterday, we've had some promising results so far and we're cautiously optimistic. But there's still a lot of people yet to join the Beta and we want to get this done to the best of our ability, so we'll have to wait and see.

That's not the case to be clear. In the Beta state, while this is still a known issue being worked on, we also have some people who haven't lost any perks or had a change in progress as well.

We've had more reports of these situations this morning too.

Can you confirm how waves are being given out for the beta? Is it just 1 wave per day or will multiple waves be sent throughout the day? Just to stop me checking my email every hour lol.

Disappointed to hear about the perks, i spent bills on BIS perks due to bad RNG and wont have the money to cover them after 120 herb on dxp, the news just gets better lol

It does vary based on the needs of the team, volume of people who have tested from the current wave and stuff like that - so some days it might be one, others more. Sorry that doesn't help in terms of the clarity you wanted - it's just a pretty fluid thing!

Player Owned Ports shouldn't be impacted and restored as expected - at worst there may be data loss going back to February 8, but we've seen good reports so far.

Update @ March 24th, 15:30

We've just sent out our 4th wave of invitations to take part in the Account Integrity Beta. To check if you've been invited, please look out for an email from us asking you to take part.

Not had anything? The Beta will continue until Friday with further invitations expected to be sent out between now and then, so keep your eyes peeled for more news!

As usual thank you for your patience and support. We'll be back with more news as soon as we have it!

Hey folks,

Following on from previous messages we've now sent out a 5th wave of invitations for the Account Integrity Beta. They should already have arrived with players.

As before, invites have been sent out via email so please check your inboxes to see if you've been invited.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience. We'll share more news as soon as we can!

It's still our intention to end it tomorrow yes. That's the current plan. Not everyone who is a candidate will be invited - it's about making enough of a sample pool to understand the general feedback and identify any problems.

Say it ends tomorrow and you all come to the conclusion it doesn't need to go for a v2 beta, is that something that you'd be able to say before the weekend is up? Is there talks behind the scenes of how/when the data from the beta will be made public? If the beta did indeed achieve the goal you all had for it, would it then be possible to create a more solid timeline?

I only ask because I think it's safe to say we're all pretty optimistic about the accounts and the job you all have done based off of what others have said, but still having a bunch of question marks beyond tomorrow could cause that optimism to turn into pessimism quickly, I'd assume.

Thanks again for the communcation! I can't believe I'm saying it but I'm looking forward to doing JoT runs and what not again.

Potentially. The Beta is still very much moving thick and fast which has been a lot of our focus, but we'd like to end the week by talking about the Beta - potentially in a Livestream - and what the next steps will likely be. We'll be able to confirm if we're ready for that tomorrow AM UK time I expect!

u/JagexHooli, for those who dont get a chance to do the beta, will there still be 1 on 1 support for them?

Everyone impacted will have access to the aftercare process we're planning for sure.

The Beta is informing improvements for everybody via the way we're translating telemetry data into account data - we're not individually tweaking accounts of people in the Beta or anything as part of this stage.

Update - 10:10 Game Time, March 26

Will there still be new people invited to the beta today, or was yesterdays wave the final wave?

It's unlikely we'll do another wave today as we just want as many people back as possible testing these new improvements.
