Hello everyone,

As I'm sure you're well aware some of you have run into "dead click" related issues.

I've been going around to teams to clarify what exactly our plans are for this and what exactly has happened so I'm hoping this will clear up a few issues.

The issue

We've seen reports on a "dead click" issue since January, since that time we've investigated and had been querying players and asking in posts for more information on this.

During that time until now we've been quietly releasing script optimisations to help reduce server delay on other scripts in the game that were "intensive".

We noticed that the reports seem to slowly die down, only until two weeks ago when we released an actionbar update to the game.

Since that time we've continued to fix any issues that have arose from that update but we're still seeing player reports on this.

Our approach

From talking to multiple teams in the office, it appears we've narrowed down the dead click issue to the client itself.

From investigations we have found that if your FPS dropped at any point for a slight moment (think Telos beams spawning in or bits of Solak's fight that initially provide a lot of animations) there was a chance if you were performing multiple actions on your actionbar one of them could miss thus behaving as if you clicked something else and giving you the "dead click".

To address this we're going to be changing the following in an upcoming NXT update:

  • Increasing the rate at which inputs are processed on the NXT client.
  • Improving how clicks and key presses are handled in low FPS

Additionally, we have some actionbar optimisations coming that will make the actionbar as responsive as it was before.

Update when?

At the time of writing this, we're unable to give you a release date just yet as we don't want to give you a date we could miss, I am however happy to confirm we'll be looking to release this as a Warmfix once we know the fix is good to go.

Hopefully this post has done a good enough job of going into the issue itself and fingers crossed we'll be able to get that Warmfix to you as soon as we can!
