[2019] Mmournings End Part 1 Bugged

I've reached the part in mournings end part 1 where you put on the mourners outfit and enter the mourners headquarters. I think I may have had only one free inventory slot when I talked to the mourner to receive the key and broken device. However I only received the key. Now when I try to talk to the gnome in the next room he asks me for the device as well as the logs and weather. Which makes sense because it's not in my inventory. So I go to the Head mourner office to look in the chest for a spare but when I try to search the chest it tells me that I already have a broken device and that I shouldn't take another one. This has left me unable to move forward in the quest. I have submitted an official bug report, but have not heard anything back from Jagex on this. Am I missing something? Or is this truly a bug? Help would be appreciated.
