Hi.

Wanted to know what people thought about the current state of damage dealing in smite and all its controlling stats, such as pen, crit, attack speed and percentage damage items; compared to the state of tanking and being able to support.

As a tank main, I personally feel like tanking has become twice as hard in the last year or two due to all the item changes and newer items that make things such as percentage pen and percentage damage relatively easy to obtain. I've personally felt like these are highly crippling for tanks and moving into the late game will make a tank main feel squishy, as there is no proper counter for penetration and percentage damage.

Thoughts?

So ive shared this data a few times but never hurts to repeat

  • % Pen changes made tanking easier, not harder, and we have observed significant data after both changes to see tanks rising in win% and dropping in deaths after both the magical and physical changes. Previously a huge amount of % pen could be acquired in ONE ITEM - which is significantly easier to fit into a build than having it spread across many items. The fact that there are more than one item with % pen makes it look like its all over the place, but its significantly harder to reach cap pen.

  • Tank boots have been extremely strong for nearly 2 years, pros complain about it to me every day, but a huge amount of players still refuse to build them - i see it in the data still - even after a 4 man gank failed to kill a support in duo with only tank boots built the other week in the SPL. Are you building these? Tanks are stronger than ever in the early-mid

  • Crit - generally crit is much more scary for nontanks than tanks, and if it is hurting you, then spectral armor is a hugely powerful counter effect.

  • Genereally, tanks are very strong rn, providing youre building spectral and tank boots, the more common complaint tends to be "im tired of building these 2 items every game"

On the balance team we care very much for the gameplay health of our tank players, especially support, as it already has a much narrower audience than DPS - we work hard to keep supports viable but often the perception doesnt match the reality on these situations.

Keep up the tanking, fellow guardian, youre doing the game a great service!
