I understand they can be used to put items directly into a machine as opposed to having to manually place it, but they do not take the item out. So in reality you are saving one click. Am I just using them wrong? I feel as though an extractor item could be useful, cough cough ConcernedApe

The point of the hopper, to me, isn't really for "automation", it's a convenience machine intended mostly for limited use, for example, you can throw your ores and coal into one and then not have to fiddle with grabbing ores/coal from your chests every time you want to reload a furnace
