Before 1.4 prismatic shards were universally loved with one exception, Haley who HATED them.
I saw a post on this subreddit a few days ago saying Pierre’s preference changed so I gifted everyone in town a shard to test and see if anyone else didn’t like the rainbow colored mineral anymore.
Now prismatic shards are DISLIKED by Pierre, Linus, and Leah. Everyone else still has their 1.3 preferences.

It's because the game has a concept of individual items, as well as "Categories", and there are also universally liked items and categories, and there is an order it checks those groups in to determine if an NPC likes a gift or not. That order accidentally got changed in 1.4
