I'm now self-publishing Stardew Valley on Android. With this change, I'm now self publishing the game on all digital platforms. Also, feel free to ask me any questions (about anything ) and I will answer as best I can

@sapling_vh Yes, I will never abandon the 1.5 mobile update. Even though it's taken way too long ( I freely admit this), I will see it through. I have not forgotten it. I think about it every day. It's a somewhat complicated situation

@Jordiegames01 I've wanted to self publish for a long time... First I was able to do it on PC, then consoles, then iOS, and now the time has come that I am able to do it on Android.

@AJSUMMERS100 Hopefully soon. To be honest, I would like to post more about Haunted Chocolatier but I also feel kind of rude or insensitive doing that before the mobile 1.5 update is out

@BmoreSith there's a lot potential in the human mind and willpower and it just needs to be unlocked, almost everyone has a huge amount of untapped potential and I hope everyone can discover their own key

@ZairkerMC Yeah, I really don't mind if individual youtubers use the music for their backgrounds or whatever.I guess if a big company was using the music for an advertisement or something I would mind. So it's kind of case by case but if you're just a person making youtube vids I don't mind

@uatsabel honestly, I've been kind of demoralized thinking about the mobile update. But I feel better now that I've just decided to talk about it and be open about it

@souvenirash I am very happy with my work on Haunted Chocolatier so far. In some ways its a very traditional game but in other ways its kind of an oddball

@fatfromdiscord I don't know if I will ever officially "close the book" on Stardew updates. If the past is any guide, there will likely be more updates

@fang_sloth make the game that you love, that you are so excited to work on that you will jump over any hurdle to bring it to life. The actual software or approach you use is not so important. If you have the drive, you'll find a way

@ubiqui_ Basically, nothing... it's more just that I'm now fully in charge of the game on Android, including the store page and business decisions. In the past, I just developed the game & updates for PC and then "handed it off" so to speak

@Drake17570469 Unfortunately I still don't have a solid release date for you. I really hate to have to say that, but that's the way it is. But I have not abandoned or forgotten about the update and I am still doing the best that I can to make it happen as soon as possible

@Magiclueless One of my favorites is the tiger slimes because they look fun, and it raises the question of what other kinds of unique slimes might exist in the world of Stardew Valley?

@katy__kakes Well there actually is a (mostly) modding related update in the works for Stardew Valley, which should ultimately make modding the game way easier, more flexible, and deeper. There may also be some new content in this update.

@cornost0ne @sapling_vh well the complicated part has more to do with certain legal/business issues which stalled the update at first. Now there is a new party working on it, and tbh progress has been a lot slower than expected. But finding yet another new entity to do it would probably take even longer

@Techsmith314 I've noticed that people have a wide variety of responses to spice. I tolerate spice fairly well (maybe the italian in me?) but I have a friend who becomes very sweaty

@CapnSmite I would love if the entirety of the modding scene was open to consoles. But consoles are a lot more restrictive about what they allow, everything has to pass certification and all that. So I'd have to officially select certain mods, but I dunno if I want to play favorites

@tonynbm_jpg There's always a chance... I mean it's something I've wanted to do at many points and it hasn't happened for various reasons. I might revisit the idea in the future after the mobile port is done but I can't promise anything

@megashadowmew There may be, but its unlikely that there will be any future updates as big as the 1.5 update was

@TheMysteryM98 Well I have to give credit to Mr. Wada and his guys who made the original Harvest Moon game that inspired me to make Stardew Valley. They came up with the core gameplay that is still so fun and addictive after all these years

@Looowis_ One QoL thing that will likely be in a future update is the ability to move your house and pet area

@XDarkraiZ I won't personally do anything about it, but there's all these automated algorithms that flag stuff so I can't guarantee that it won't get flagged. I've had some issue in the past and am currently still trying to prevent these music distributor platforms from going after ppl

@HaruWasntHere I have all kinds of ideas, yeah. Probably too many ideas to make in my life time

@Mochizuki_Yuri I love that game and it's hard to pick, but I've always been kind of partial to Edgar. But I probably respect Cyan more

@StaceyUK No, actually the save anywhere thing was necessary for mobile but wasn't what I wanted from a game design perspective. I know it can be annoying sometimes but I think it's important for the flow of the game

@Dragonjackal I coded it from scratch using XNA (which provides some low level game functions like loading assets and drawing textures to the screen). I've never used any game making software but I'm not against it or anything

@ailaxvo64_ Probably mostly the JRPG's I played as a kid. But also for stardew valley there was some classical, jazz and country music influence

@K0ku36 It can be difficult and I fail at it often. But what helps the most is if you make a game that you are very excited about, and try your best to have fun while making it. Everyone needs some leisure time but If you can have fun in your work you can fudge that a bit

@HumanWizardCat I do enjoy chocolate, but also I just think chocolate and candy-making in a dark, snowy town sounded like a fun and cozy thing to do with a lot of room for imagination and magic

@YukiPkmnTrainer @Yuki_Sukafu well I haven't had enough experience with mobile yet as I just recently started publishing there. Consoles in general are a lot more complicated than PC. Steam is the easiest to work with. They just let you be free and if your game has issues, that's on you. I appreciate that

@SatiSimBuilds that would be cool but I feel like there'd need to be underground crops which adds a whole new can of worms. Old version of Stardew Valley I did plan on having underground buildings, like you would build elevators yourself and other things

@Super_Anina Penny used to be named Dana, Alex used to be named Josh, and Willy used to be named Dick. The intro cutscene I added at the last minute and that's why grandpa's bed looks so weird, but now it's part of the lore

@aristreamsss I personally have no issue with you using the music in your streams. There have been some cases where some automated algorithm flagged people for using it but it wasn't anything I initiated. I'm still working on trying to guarantee that individual streamers will never have issue

@AnaBiagioniST one of the things I'm really proud of is how the community just came together in a grassroots way, and runs itself. I don't manage it or impose my own rules or anything like that

@izaacdiasmatos it's definitely a possibility. The farming RPG is still my favorite niche genre and I don't necessarily think Stardew Valley is the end-all-be-all of what could be done with the style

@CHERRY_A_1998 MAny such ideas. For example, I had an idea to have a laboratory building in which you could create hybrids out of any two crops. Didn't do it because it would be an insane amount of work (exponential)

@werestep1 it may have more content updates, but not guaranteeing anything at this point. And yeah it exceeded my expectations beyond my wildest dreams many times over

@QueenQeeko Well, in the games industry there is a concept of "developer" (the person/team who makes the game) and "publisher" (the company that distributes and markets the game). I used to just be the developer but now I am also in charge of publishing duties as well.

@CamDeeGaming I do regret the difficulty of that one, somewhat. But I also feel that if I changed it now, it wouldn't be fair to the people who have already gotten the achievement

@ProjectAee Are you playing in a language other than english? There's actually an issue with non-english right now that makes loading take way too long, that will be fixed in a future update

@ToadPlayer64 imagine the high level concept of the world in your head, then let your imagination organically fill the world with people and specific locations that make sense. Don't be afraid to just do something on a whim

@WCoder598 That's kind of a gut-feeling kind of thing. But if you want to implement many ideas, you're going to have to put in a lot of hours. Just be prepared for that. If you are excited about all the ideas then let that excitement drive you forward

@scientist_me I'm glad you're enjoying the game! the most sure-fire way to get a dino egg is probably to find a dino level in the skull caves. The dinos have a pretty high chance of dropping them

@Sir_Pinia The past couple updates for Stardew Valley I've worked on with Arthur (Mr. Podunkian), but for Haunted Chocolatier so far I'm working alone. Podunkian still works on Stardew Valley related stuff too

@cryco21 The discovery and exploration of playing a game for the first time can be really fun and memorable. But when you play it again, you know a lot more and that can add a whole new layer to your experience which is also fun

@BYSTANDWR I decided to make it about 10 years ago. I never expected it would become the defining thing in my whole life

@JRussAV I would like to do that, but the problem is that the 10 & 14 heart events are made with the assumption that you are romantically involved with the character. So In order to do that I'd have to make friend-only versions of each character's final events which is a lot of work

@victhirteen One thing I would try, is switching to english, loading up the game, and see if you can finish the quest. If it works, then after you save that night you can go back to portuguese

@wade_burrell no, I just made the game based on my gut feeling. I played a lot of games as a kid though. Stardew's written in C#, but I knew Java already so it was pretty easy to switch. The XNA stuff I learned as I went, but it's just a bunch of C# classes/methods so it wasn't too bad

@trapfaery I am open to adding more story to NPC's and even making some marriagable. It's more a question of...if I have the time, willpower, and ideas for how to expand them. I'm not opposed to the idea though

@megthehopeful It's kind of complicated, but involves a legal/business issue which I can't really get into, the necessity to have a whole new team work on it, and then multiple setbacks and missed deadlines due to people being unfamiliar with the code or underestimating the difficulty

@ParkerDap_ I enjoy them in the right context. For example, I've been known to enjoy an oatmeal raisin cookie with a little cinnamon in the winter months

@trixenflex well I had some formal training for programming (I don't think that's necessary though), and the other stuff was all just at an amateur level and then I slowly got better while making the game. And I'm still not even close to "the best" at anything.

@GadiAleks I didn't really intend to shock, but more that you'd feel like an outsider the first year, but then by the second year you feel more like part of the community. So there's a progression there

@TheUnsungHero26 Yes music was always a big hobby for me, and I wanted to be a musician well before the thought of making a game came to me. I do remember the first song but it didn't end up in the game. One of the earliest songs that's in the final game is the load game music, and some mine song

@adambenross well I grew up playing Super Nintendo, so maybe it's just what feels right to me. It's also easier (in many ways). But I'm not opposed to 3d or anything
