At first when it was announced, all I could think was this is going to be the Starcraft sequel Blizzard was never going to release. And the SG team did promote it that way, the "Spiritual successor of SC2".

Probably was my bad for expecting it to be in terms of -unit design and artstyle-, 90% or so similar to SC2. I was expecting a human race, much like Terran, an at least a swarmy zerg-like race that would give us something that would look like the epic TvZs we see in professional SC2.

I honestly wouldn't have minded a blatant copy of SC2 at that point, with some tweaks and the expected rebranding to avoid legal issues. But what we got instead is an ALTERNATIVE to SC2. With an active dev team behind it so that's already an improvement. And I guess I felt a bit dissapointed by the gameplay released in the past couple of months because it was very clear to me that it will not look or play like Starcraft 2.

It was almost inevitable that the SG's dev team was going to give us their "take" on what competitive RTS should look like, and with that, I guess drastic differences were expected.

But when I take "Starcraft" completely out of the equation, I think Im starting to feel excited again, thinking of it as another RTS release, with a very experienced team behind it. Last time I felt this exited about an RTS other than Starcraft, I think it was during Grey Goo's release. So yeah, I just wanted to share, I wonder if anybody else feels the same way.
