I have met with an expert team of top Starcraft scientists and we came up with those sliders to define the factions themes and gamplay. I know there will be some arguing about a couple sliders as there are some differences in opinions and between BW and SC2... but I think most will globally agree.
The spots underlined are where the 3rd faction lands.
By putting the existing factions unto the same sliders we can hazard some guesses about the 3rd faction. Some choices on where the factions land are subjective and some are based on FG's interviews, for example they've always described the Infernals as a swarmy faction and Vanguard as having a few, highly durable units.
Conclusion:
Me and my scientific team believe that the 3rd faction will be closest to Protoss in terms of general theming. An advanced alien race with technology unknown to us.
They will however play out more like Terran. Their units will be glass cannons that can dish out a lot of damage and are highly microable thanks to their mobility. I'm not sure how that kind of design is going to work with melee units though. Unless they go for even more range than Vanguard and their 2 melee units (but I don't think it's too likely).
I expect them to have some sort of way to negate cliffs earlier than the other factions. A blink, a reaper unit or drops available early. I expect their army size to be comparable to VG's bio, maybe their T2 units will not be so much more powerful (like the current T2 units) but more mobile.
This is anecdotal but monk stated in one interview that his favorite SC unit is the siege tank...and also has compared the Atlas to a reaver several times...so I would not be surprised to see the 3rd faction with a siege unit that's closest to the siege tank. Maybe with less range than the Atlas but cheaper and available earlier and therefore more massable. Maybe without splash or with splash as a later upgrade.
I also expect their first unit to be ranged, alien robot with a gun > man with a gun.
