[2020] Taunt/Marked Inconsistencies

I run JKR in arena and I just finished a mirror match (except I have Ezra instead of GK because I’m a pleb, whatever). This is a few turns in. Opponent’s GK throws up retribution, GMY takes it and spreads it to my team. My JKR marks Jolee and opponent’s GK taunts. Opponent’s JKR uses his aoe and half of my team counters against Jolee and half on GK. (unfortunately, I don’t have video so I don’t know who exactly went where). My understanding is that marked would take precedence over the taunt and the counters should have all gone to Jolee? Is that wrong? I don’t think I’ve ever seen multiple toons counter against different targets on the same aoe before. Am I missing something in the kits that would explain this?
