UPDATE: Action has been taken! The shirt has been removed from the store, and refunds are being issued to everyone who purchased it. The team is also discussing steps to prevent this from happening again. You can read Loki's full post here.
The Flying Dutchman T-shirt from Terraria's official merch store is AI generated, here's why:
- The art on the shirt looks nothing like the actual thing. There are many imperfections, such as out of place windows, missing masts, missing paddles, missing cannons, inaccurately torn sails and even a missing flag.
- The mast on the back of the ship is drawn behind the ship. No real artist would let such an error slide.
- The front of the ship looks completely different, even missing the bowsprit above the skull.
- Near the top of the first mast, there seems to be a wall which makes zero sense.
- The text above the ship seems to also be AI generated. If you look closely, the letter "S" looks different the first time it's used compared to the second and third time.
- The rope texture seems to be the same texture used for the rest of the ship.
- There are some inconsistencies at the bottom of the first mast, towards the guardrail of the ship.
- It's one of the few shirts that don't have an artist mentioned.
