No, we discussed removing the wire item as a requirement to place wire for a hot minute but made no changes
I personally like to pair teleporters with pylons. I typically make a base above ground in a biome with a pylon and add a teleporter that takes me to an underground fishing hole. Also- wiring is not going to be free, not sure why that is floating around so much. :P
