Saw this video yesterday from one of the YouTubers I'm subscribed to. I'm not a mobile gamer, but definitely consider myself a casual. No salt though, I see his point.

My thing is, if industries that produce a product only attempt to reach a small part of the market, their product is going to over all be less successful. For instance, if I made gloves for only left hands, I wouldn't sell many gloves. This is an extreme example. However, many people on here in past posts have disagreed that I'm a casual, yet many who I would consider hard core players would also refute that label. I'm curious how you all feel about this video, and how you see yourselfs (hard core or casual).

If Massive/Red Storm only made a game for hard core players, how many copies would get sold. Like wise if they only made the game for casuals, how many would get sold. My other issue, was that this video was rater black and white. There is probably a full spectrum of Hard Core, and I know there is a full soectrum of Casuals. For instance, grinding. As a casual, I see the Grind in both the Division and Warframe, and large part of the fun of the game. Do I think it can be overbearing at times? Absolutely!

I don't shy away from the current DZ, even though I get killed pretty much everytime I go in there. I have killed one Rogue on a PTS which didn't count, and one on my second account. On my primary I have over 1k hours and have never killed a rogue. No salt on my part over this. I always go in with a PvE build on (Lone Star) I'm not going to beat a PvPer....I'm just in there trying to finish up my Shields (which obviously I'm not going to finsh, so I just should't worry about it).

Alright, we're going super high-concept here...
Where do you guys get your engagement from within The Division? Is it from the narrative, the world, the gunplay, the PvP combat, the PvE combat, the difficulty, the complexity etc? What do you enjoy about games - The Division or otherwise? Why do you play games?

I did. In truth I'm trying to dance around some of my more passionate disagreements.

With my questions I was trying to crack at the larger point that all sorts of players can play the same games for different reasons. Beyond that, we all bring something personal to the games we play. Someone who goes in-depth on a game's systems and likes number crunching/optimizing can still apply that interest and knowledge to multiple games, even if those games are nothing alike. Just as someone who just likes to kick back, relax, and have fun can play different games for the same reason. Those two kinds of players can also be playing the same game, bringing different mindsets to it, and playing it/enjoying it for different reasons.
Games, as a medium, have evolved a LOT. I'm pretty sure most people are hankering for the daunting complexity of Dwarf Fortress to come to modern games, nor are they pleading for the simplicity of Pong to make a resurgence into the mainstream market. Games are not perfect for everyone, they never have been. I guess what I'm trying to get at is... for an imperfect metaphor, if you really like spicy food, and all the local restaurants are starting to also serve savory dishes in addition to their usual spicy menu... you're still always able to bring your own hot sauce to the table.

I hope this helps clarify what I'm getting at.

Personally, I agree with you.

When playing a game, I am usually playing the PvE side of things. I do not mind PvP gameplay, but at some point , I avoid it at all costs.
I'm like @sgtnogo . I play games to have fun and & relax. Most times, I'd say I'm playing for the narrative, because I love a good story and dialogue.
