Might seem like an odd question but ever since the update this week the game seems darker...I've had to adjust the brightness settings several times in sewers or on certain missions as I simply cannot see NPC's or where I'm going. The game was always a bit dark at times but I never had to change the settings in game....

Fantastic jokes aside, I don't believe there have been any changes made to the lighting system. Are you noticing this kind of darkness in areas with few lights or with no lights?
