So I recently decided to quilt the game. I popped in the dark zone today because I literally had nothing better to do on my day off at the time. I figured I'll just run around and be a jerk in the dz. Other than me learning the hard way trying to make an SMG build that only dropped smg9's have 4 mod slots and crafted ones only have 3 i was pretty upset. I broke an awesome rolled smg9 that I have had for months to move a talent over to a crafted one slightly better. So that was a kick in the jewels.

The following is a narration of the highlights of my time in the dark zone today.

I tried that SMG build on someone with an assault rifle headshot build. You know the type, custom p416 and a nemesis, hsd on the holster and gloves, five reds so he can use optimist. Guy practically melted me. With that much headshot damage he was committed to fighting at point blank range. So I thought to myself, "F--k this. I'm putting on Uncle Buckshot (my shotgun build)". Killed him twice and the second time was a legit fight, the first time i kinda shot him in the back for spamming emotes. After that I decided I've had enough and log out. We start talking smack through psn. Good times.

Some time later I decide to go back in and maybe start some trouble, but I can't find anyone to fight solo. So I round up a couple pieces of contaminated gear and send it off to an extraction. A little backstory here: previously I cleared a landmark in which a machine gunner was about to lay down an ammo box. I light him up after he drops it, switch to my sawed off, and scoop up the rounds. Meanwhile, in the northern part of dz south, a group of 3 had been going manhunt off and on for around 30 minutes. I cleared Shanghai hotel, shot of an extraction at the southern point, and headed to the north point.

Fast forward a couple minutes. The chopper at south extraction leaves the site by the time the north one drops the rope. I put my canister on and post up on a building pulling overwatch on the rope. The same group came by and started cutting the rope. It took a little bit for them to find me but I was able to down and kill the guy doing the cutting. His 2 friends tried shooting me but they weren't doing a good enough job. So after rope guy dies they came at me in a pincer move to sandwich me in. The first guy climbs up right in front of me.

Enter: Max roll premeditated sawed off with 30 incendiary rounds.

Mr. LMG build takes two shells and lights up like a grease fire. We waltz with our weapons to the sweet sound of high velocity projectiles landing into flesh. LMG guy is doing some damage with hip firing but goes down. Meanwhile, his friend comes up behind me. Unfortunately I had no time to heal up and with only a little armor left and waning health I make a final stand. I managed to break his armor before going down. I think to myself, not too bad. I got my stuff, killed 2 dudes, and almost a third one.

So I respawn at the checkpoint. I walk over to the stash and expect to set the same garbage I normally find. Although, I was curious to see the petrov pack I just sent up. 14 out of 15 items got turned into mats. But that petrov pack, though, was not half bad. A little low on the base armor, but the other rolls were at least a slight improvement over the ones I have not to mention on the ropes, skill power, haste, health, and armor, and I recalibrated hardened. Since it doesn't have red on it and I don't think a petrov pack can roll higher than 4% awd, instead I used a decent lmg mod for extra damage. It was all a minor improvement to my lmg build, but an improvement nonetheless.

I'm glad to hear all this action ended in an improved build loadout. I guess the quilt jokes live on for another day.
