I've been gear score 500 and farming gear/prof caches for days now without a single item over 500 gear score dropping. Is this as intended or did the recent influx of bugs and hot-fixes adversely effect the gear score on drops?
If this is an intended effect I would love to know why. The gear you get is completely RNG. You don't get to effect the stats enough to min/max gear while climbing in gearscore at any reasonable rate. Therefore, reducing the amount of higher gear score drops is not a viable fix for creating "artificial scarcity". We needed the quantity in order to sift through the huge amounts of garbage for something of quality. If this is going to be the way forward we need to bring back the re-cal on all stats as well (not my preference). Ideally we should go back to the pre-patch gear drop rate.
I would love to hear from a dev on this. The game was great at launch, there were some minor fixes and balance issues but that's something that's fluid within the game and not game-breaking. The lack of drop rate on high level gear, coupled with the fact that MOST of it is garbage, is something that will drive away a casual and part-time player base. We've been through this before. Not asking to make it easy, just don't make it a hugely grindy waste of time to play this game. Its off to a good start, I hope it stays that way and things get back on track. I'm sure there can be a middle ground here, assuming

Hey! So gear has a cap that it will drop at - 500 I believe - but weapons and gear can still be recalibrated to go beyond that. But I don't think you'll be finding gear dropped in the world at 515 or anything like that.

Here's the line from the Patch Notes:
"Recalibration still allows Gear Score to increase slightly past the maximum loot Gear Score."
