State of the Game - January 8th, 2020

As announced, there will be a State of the Game at 17.00 CEST.

You can check it out on

Happy New Year! We'll be discussing some priority alerts, give a brief overview of Episode 3, and sharing a State of the Game schedule.

Summary

TBA

New Options for Obtaining Apparel Caches

Since the release of The Division 2, there have been a series of Apparel Events each offering a wide variety of cosmetic items for our players. We are committed to not only introducing new apparel going forward, but also giving you additional options for obtaining cosmetics. As a result, we have a few things to share!

Introducing Textiles

There has been some feedback around receiving duplicates in Standard Apparel Caches, and we want to improve the system to address some of your frustration. Specifically, we understand that receiving XP for duplicates in Standard Caches does not feel rewarding, and we are introducing a new type of currency in place of XP in the near future. Introducing Textiles!

With every duplicate received in Standard Apparel Caches, you will automatically receive a portion of Textiles instead of XP. Once you collect enough Textiles, you will be able to use this currency to eventually make direct purchases of the majority of the items on the in-game store!

We hope this upcoming change will allow you a more predictable path to obtaining some existing apparel and target specific items.

As always, you still have the option to directly purchase cosmetics with Premium Credits through the in-game store.

The Legacy Cache

If you are looking for more apparel options using Premium Credits, we are providing a new type of cache containing a selection of older items. Introducing the Legacy Cache, available in-game now!

Priced at 100 Premium Credits, this is a new opportunity if you aren’t necessarily targeting something specific but would like more apparel previously available. If you are, in fact, after a specific item, be sure to check out the in-game store for direct purchases!

Going forward, this cache will periodically be available for a limited time. With Apparel Event Silent Night over, the first Legacy Cache is live now for a limited time, and can be accessed within the Apparel Cache menu.

To celebrate, we are giving everyone who logs in to The Division 2 between January 7th and 14th three Legacy Cache keys! Don’t forget you can also gift the Legacy Cache to friends or clan mates who are missing apparel!

Legacy Caches guarantee no duplicates, and its contents can be previewed in-game within the Cache menu. You can also read up on the contents here. A new Standard Cache pool rotation is also available, so be sure to check out the details!

They're literally announcing news that they will have news in the future... why waste the time making this a stream. Put it all in a forum post so we can read it in 5 minutes and come back when you can give details on something.

"We have this neat thing coming but we cant say what it is or when it's coming. We can say we'll talk about it a bit more but we cant say when. But it's going to be cool." Do that about 6 times and you have the whole SotG.

We suggested that and had a lot of player feedback that we should be there if we have news or not. It's difficult to please everybody and we talked pretty intensively internally about this.

Having State of the Game every week helps us stay connected with the streaming platforms, gives us a chance to chat with you and we think we always have small tidbits that are interesting. We do understand that not having big news every week is frustrating for some and that, as you put it, some would like a forum post instead then.

We're trying to do the best of both words by providing info on what we'll be talking about in State of the Game at least a day before or like today with a schedule for the next weeks.

Additionally, we do the weekly articles that recap most of the State of the Game topics and some other things we're working on. So if you do not like the streaming format there's other ways to keep informed.

We also understand that we just are not delivering content at a pace where many players would like it to be. That also causes frustration with State of the Game. For now, we have decided to do the streams and an article, to give players the options.

Hey Chris,

I don't like the fact there is no focused PvP/Dark Zone segment in upcoming SOTGs around Episode 3/TU1.7. Drew said they could make some room but We need DZ/PvP focused SOTG. Believe it or not. There's a portion of us that likes to PvP or roam the DZ. You guys have been silent anything related to the DZ or PvP. Just rehashing shotguns are overpowered. What about loot incentives and player experience in the DZ? Last DZ/PvP focused SOTG was like 6 months and that one was underdelivered. There are many of us who want to hear about changes to the DZ and PvP.

We won't have large changes for the DZ and PvP coming in Episode 3, which is also why we we're not planning to have a PTS.

That being said, we're already starting work on what's after EP3 and that will include changes to the DZ and PVP. Once we have the details nailed down we'll talk about them. We might also have smaller updates beforehand if we can confirm these changes are set in stone.

Yes, we need to talk about PVP for sure.

How about talking to your higher management and bring a bit of visibility on the additional resources needed for the new content?

Or has Ubi completely lost their hope for the franchise?

What is going on here?

I don't think I'm qualified to decide if we need more people working on a project.

Why after episode 3? Why not during episode 3? It's not like community has been voicing the pvp/darkzone issues I do not know since episode 1. My main question is how is red storm really spend their time when they spend whole days drawing people posing.

The simple answer is that it needs time to be done. That time is being spend right now but we won't have it ready for Episode 3.

The issue is and always has been that you guys always host STOG to talk about the dates SOTG will be talking about one subject that coming in the update when you guys could have held one SOTG explaining the details in the update. I am going to be honest just stop wasting everyone time with these streams it clear you guys rather make fourm posts then sit on a stream for 42 minutes talking in a circle telling us that cool stuff is coming well in reality it's just lackluster content that offers no replay ability. You guys say your listening to the community but we have been asking for replay ability since day one and you guys have not took no strides to achieve this. But hey you guys are achieving to create more way for us to grind those appeal caches am I right.

Yes, that sums up how communication works for us right now. We plan out what is going to happen, when things are ready and when we can talk about them.

As I said, we understand that some players only want us to stream when we have big news or can talk about the details, while others want us to show that we're there, that we're active, that we're listening and reflect that in the streams.

In terms of content, we understand that what we have delivered for now and with Episode 3 doesn't fulfill what everybody wants out of the game. So when we looked at the road ahead after Episode 3 we keep that in mind when creating more content and hopefully offer more re-playability.

The apparel events, apparel items and changes are not done by a team that is doing missions, raids, and other gameplay changes. It's a separate team so they work doesn't slow down anything else. And we currently also don't have plans do add additional gameplay events for apparel specifically.

Thats really disappointing to know that players would rather have you guys be there on camera, even when there's no news to show. I imagine yall would rather go home and chill out for the rest of the day then stay behind and set up the show to come up with something interesting to talk about besides the updates and content yall cant speak on yet. I know I'd feel that way if it was me sitting in those chairs. I feel for you guys.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I think a lot of us are pretty excited about being on stream and talking to you. Of course it's also part of our work and at the end of the day we're getting paid to be there. Still, State of the Game means a lot to us as a team.

I've heard rumours of a Ubi studio dropping Div2 development due to issues with Massive. Is this why the raid is delayed?

Massive is a development studio of Ubisoft and Ubisoft is the publisher of the games Massive has developed, just to clarify that.

The raid needs more time to be completed and we choose to not rush the content and make sure that it is able to reach the quality we want to present. Operation Dark Hours set a good example of how we feel a raid in TD2 should be.

We also still have our team committed to The Division 2 for content after Episode 3.

right and if we were in june 19 that would be fine as u would still have another 3 months to finish the raid off, but we are in jan 2020 now 3 months late. so people are just wondering why it is going to be so late. maybe if we were told more and hopefully the reason behind the delays like idk what would a good reason be. then maybe people can be more understanding of the situation

What it comes down to is how much work is needed and how much time we had for this work. The raid is really something we want to make as great of an experience as possible, so we take extra time for it.

Game development is often times not as simple as "Let's finish this this week" and there are many areas that might need more testing, refinement, additions, reductions and so on.

We understand that the amount of content for the game feels lackluster for players and if it was a simple switch to produce more or faster we would.

yeah i get that i suppose but extra time and then there is adding a hwole year onto dev time is kinda crazy. But it should be interesting i have no idea how people first started doing the 1st raid. and also sorta glad it was delayed 3 months so i can get a lot more completions on the first.

and if a raid was planned every 3 months does that mean we will get raid 3 earlier then raid 2? and does that also mean we will get yr2 content (different team/season pass) before then hopefully too?

Short term fix could we idk double the amount of loot from heroic missions then i can dump the DZ and go back to farming missions. did the loot rate change from tu5 to tu6? as u would be lucky to get 5 items in a 10-20 minute challenging missions and not much more for a heroic. And at the moment i avoid it like the plague. and faring cp4s gets boring.

if this could be done for expeditions especially if we add the modifiers that would be really good. although a few more directions posted up there would be nice too. i spend a long time lost down there the 2 times i have done it.

Unless I'm mistaken we never intended to have a raid every 3 months. We confirmed two raids during the game's announcement and confirmed the date (too early obviously) for the second raid at E3. We don't have any news on a third raid, let's get the second out of the door first.

We will deliver Episode 3 and then talk about what's next.

yeah, looking forward to Wednesday loot changes incoming. hopefully we arent looking at 1 in 400 odd of getting a alraldi spark/HH backpack anymore. 1 in 8 for backpack i think, 1 in 8 for spark, 1 in 6 for HH. Hopefully two more heroic missions? cause no offence i played the last two missions twice then ditched them why play a game mode with no loot. and as amazing CWO/zoo heroic is the loot for it is dreadful.

edit: i mean i dont even care about god rolls, i put together a viable tac-50 build but i just hate some of the RNG with the talents, i think the god roll issue is more of a PvP problem where people have the 30% total armour rolls form 6 months ago.

Hopefully no more awkward giggles when he asks about a problem and they go no idea how we will fix it. stuff like that just needs to be put into notes for something u guys are working on. rather then him asking and them not knowing and then laughing about it as they have no response.

First raid was May? second was maybe october? so every 5 months almost 6?

Again, unless we messed up communication somewhere we never announce more than two raids.

In terms of giggles on the show: I understand some people would like a more scripted, marketing like show. We think this doesn't fit what we have in mind for State of the Game as a community place to hang out, talk with the audience and deliver updates, comments and show some community love.

We understand that players are worried the game doesn't get more support or that no new content is coming. We acknowledge that and we have said numerous times that we are committed to The Division 2 and there's more to come in Episode 3. So, while we take this seriously we are also humans and having some giggles and fun on a show will not go away.
