[2019] Why doesnt pistols have any weapon type bonus?

Am i crazy or pistols dont have any type of bonus related to its weapon type? i mean sawed off shotgun has the dumb melee bonus but its there

That's a good question. Personally I've always thought of pistols as a kind of standard, bread n' butter weapon but I appreciate the interesting suggestion!
