Had all but written gear sets off in general. Decided to throw on 6/6 Ongoing Directive the other night. Constantly getting all that special ammo, I've found, is an absolute game changer. Haven't yet gone on to fully min/max a build yet but generally having a blast with it. Here's why...

The Right Tool -

  • Now that we get special ammo on all three weapons (as opposed to previously when it was only on what we had holstered) I'm finding I regularly get a ton of it across all three. Hitting with fire, shock or explosive ammo almost the whole time seems to have really upped my damage output.
  • Incendiary and shock rounds really allow the Striker Drone and Assault Turret (I run both together regularly) to come into their own. Hitting an enemy with shock or fire (fire causing the flailing animation or stopping them dead in their tracks with shock) lets the turret and drone really tear enemies down, especially when it pushes them out of cover.
  • Striker Drone and (to an extent) Assault Turret survivability is greater due to being able to shut down attacks on either by way of applying shock or burn (I'm sitting at about 2250 skill power with an even spread of increased dmg output, increased duration and reduced cool-down mods across both).

Emergency Requisition -

  • I've found that Emergency Requisition comes in very handy a lot of the time during those instances of being pinned down, out of armor kits, out of grenades or sig weapon ammo but you can see that drop you need that's just out of reach. Soon as Emergency Requisition kicks in, it's yours. Also saves times running about picking stuff up.
  • I also noticed that the pulse from Emergency Requisition allows you to see in the dark... almost. The outward pulse lights up dimly lit areas but the cool part is when the pulse makes it way back to you. As it does you're able to see enemy outlines through walls, floors and ceilings. Pretty cool advantage when you're being sneaky/positioning yourself before an engagement.

The Buffs -

  • The increased weapon handling is great for LMGs and and MMRs
  • The increased fire damage is great for the incendiary ammo
  • The increased bleed damage is great with the Demolisionists grenade

(Haven't looked in to it yet but I'm sure there's some cool synergy with the Survivalist specialization and various other status effect related weapon talents and, probably, skills)

I could go on about various other aspects of it I'm enjoying but I'm trying to keep this short. I am looking forward to properly drilling in to it and doing a bit of min/max'ing So yeah... if, like me, gearsets have never really been a thing for you, give it a shot, I'm finding it to be a lot of fun. Hopefully you will too

Couldn't agree more. Thank you for sharing a detail account of your experience with the OD set.

Rare though it may be, there is the gear set that is specifically for Marksman rifles and the Sharpshooter Specialization. I believe blueprints for those Spec. Sets drop from the Raid specifically.
