First of all: Thanks Massive for making the NPC's in this game actually useful as opposed to the JTF from DIV 1.

I find it pretty cool how over time in each area you will see the militia getting various decked out weapons which is a sign of progress. This is good! BUT it's also kinda lame that the civilians themselves never upgrade. Even at end game they still stroll around in shorts and T-shirt like they just fell off the boat, why not have them in more tactical looking gear towards end game? Maybe even With your Clan's Logo on it? And maybe give them the same animations as the true sons by the end of the game? (no more Magikarp splashing and flopping to get behind cover) To show that they aren't clumsy like at the start of the game and are actually battle tested by this point. (Maybe have the Shooting range activity in free roam be what improves this?)

I'd also would like to be able to have a militiaman or 2 as followers when I play solo. Playing solo and being shot at by everyone and their grandmother can result in some almost instant deaths, having a troop or 2 would cause the enemy to shoot at more than just you. While yes it's possible that a patrol will happen upon in free roam and assist, it's inconsistent, unreliable and useless in missions. Follower NPC's can be specific side characters you found in side missions or main missions. Or can just be hired on the spot from Outposts for free (But will have no traits or special abilities) These followers will scale the difficulty but not as much as if it were a player.

For example: The true sons scout that opens the gate for you in one of the main missions. After that mission is complete you could find her at one of the safe houses or the Base of operations and she's willing to be hired as a merc for a fee. She uses a sniper and a drone.

Another is the side mission where you rescue the Beekeeper. Afterwards you can find and hire him, he'd specialize with the hive gadget and SMG's

And so on.

I think these would be a great additions for solo or duo players that don't want to deal with the inconsistency of randoms. But also in general for making it feel like your personal army is actually evolving and improving as time goes on, beyond a couple of weapon attachments. And besides, the militia members are tanky as hell, they can take tank sledgehammers to the face repeatedly and survive while wearing tank tops and beanies. God damn superhumans, But doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

Thanks to everyone that took the time to read this.

Interesting feedback. Thanks for taking the time to write out all your thoughts and observations, by the way! How might having a civilian militia that's as well equipped as you are, sans the skills, impact your experience with the game?
