It has no point, but the fact that it is there makes everyone focus on it, and due to min/max rolls on items, confuses the heck out of some. At the very most, a item should have maybe a level requirement to equip, nothing more. Do this and a whole slew of complaints would stop. If the raid, DZ or whatever can drop better gear, simply say that, not that 515 or 525 will drop there, just that it has a "chance" of being better.
You know the first person to loot a 515 piecve of gear that has lower scores than his 495-500 piece is going to come here and gripe about it, so save yourselves the trouble and remove the gear score attribute, its pointless and only causes players unhappiness. Heck, looting a 495 piece with better scores than my current 500 makes me unhappy, when it should have made me ecstatic!
