The couple scavenging and arguing over ownership of what they find, the elderly guy walking around with hunched shoulders in desperate need of a hand-out, the woman leaning out the apartment window shouting out to say thanks as I passed by on the street below...

Anyone else miss these NPCs from the original game? I do.

Possibly just me but as seemingly simple and inconsequential as they were, those NPCs always served as a reminder that there were those who were desperately trying to survive the aftermath of Green Poison whom, in the absence of the ability to fight for themselves, relied so heavily on us as Division Agents. To the extent that it all added up to really emphasize the sense of foreboding / end of civilization.

Obviously a matter of opinion but I'd like to see their return in TD2. Don't get me wrong, I do like the direction that's been taken, in so far as that everyday DC civilians are taking up arms and fighting back but seeing those poor helpless folks out on the street was always pretty poignant for me. Also aware that there are those huddled behind closed doors building their own little communities, as is alluded to, in certain side missions, in the sequel but the hopelessness of those everyday folks really added to the authenticity of it all in the original game. Just something that, to me, seems to be lacking this time around.

I think the move from snowy, wintery New York to summer time in DC, as well as things like the aforementioned, have had a big (not so great) impact on the general atmosphere in the sequel.

YMMV of course and it all depends on just how involved you get in the RPG aspect but... thoughts?

There is definitely a solemn hopelessness to The Division that melts away in The Division 2, but it's important to remember that they are games trying to tell two different stories. One of downfall and resurrection, the other is one of resistance and resurgence.

The setting of The Division is absolutely memorable, but what parts of The Division 2's world and story do you think will stick with you in a similar way?
