Hiya folks,

We’re currently experiencing a delay in the pre-download for existing PC players. Our current estimates are that the pre-download should be online within the next few hours. Our apologies for anyone this may have inconvenienced, and we’ll update this thread once the service is available.

I usually frame it as

Goals = Why
Strategy = How
Tactics = What

but I can see your take as well

Comment

If I could frame this statement, I would.

This distinction between tactics and strategy (goals, strategy, tactics) is a commonly understood paradigm in the business world, and it definitely can also apply to your gaming experiences.

It’s fair to say that 5v5 is more tactical, with the ability to individually carry being more prevalent. In a competitive setting tactical excellence is important, but the team with the better overall strategy will win when tactical excellence (individual game sense/skill) is r...

Hiya folks,

The patch will be coming later tonight, so as not to interfere with today’s Contender’s tournaments

If you’re a console player, you should receive an email from Blizzard that contains a code for the platform/region you signed up with at the opt in.

PC players are granted the license automagically by us, and we then follow up with an email

Comment

FYI, access being granted will probably happen for folks before they receive the email. Keep an eye out for the “Overwatch 2 Beta” option to appear in your dropdown menu

Today is our first day back from a holiday weekend. We’ll have more updates later this week

Comment

Folks should start getting emails later this afternoon. We’re currently rolling out PC invites (they take time to roll out), and will be adding folks from both Xbox and PS today

I’ve said this in previous threads (months ago at this point), but it bears repeating: just because a minority of players ever even look at the forums, doesn’t mean they’re not valuable in their own way, at least as a representation of a certain kind of player’s experience

I understand that folks don’t like hearing that a negative reaction from the forums was anticipated, and probably don’t like it more when they here us essentially say that we considered it an acceptable risk

Support a Streamer is new grounds for us. There was a zero sum possibility that this activation wasn’t going to upset some folks. Concerns like this are always raised during the planning of events like this, and we weigh it together with the needs of the business, the needs of the broader community (of which content creators are part of), and the needs of the team. Time will be the ultimate judge of if this activation is successful or not (I certainly hope it is), and you can rest assured that th...

Forums =/= 99% of the player base. Forums more realistically represent less than 1% of the player base and have pretty well established biases.

Forums are also historically very adverse to change and us trying new promotions like this. The response today was anticipated and factored into our decision making process

Comment

That’s a personal goal of mine, should there be future iterations. This is a new program, both for Twitch and us, and there are a lot of unknown unknowns right now. We put into place as many reasonable controls as we could to learn from this first execution.

I’m sorry, you mean over 150, right? Because that’s how many are on the list

to be transparent, there was never a world in which this promotion was only existing core OW streamers. I feel as though we have a good mix of familiar faces and new folks who will bring plenty of new eyes to both the game and community

Content creators are an important part of the community. Both in terms of community building for a certain segment, and in terms of driving both visibility and awareness of what’s happening with the game.

Like it or not, traditional marketing is no more and content creators serve an important function in the existing ecosystem. What we’re focused on doing is providing opportunities for creators to be successful with Overwatch, so that creating content for the community is a more sustainable choice for them. The hypothesis is that this is a far better mechanism than just throwing piles of cash at people t...

For this first event, we intentionally kept it to a limited list. This first SaS is for us to gather data and learn. Should it be successful, we’ll build on that and most likely expand availability.

Comment

You are far over estimating what all but the most successful of streamers actually earn

If you don’t wish to donate to one of the bigger names, we’ve listed many smaller long time Overwatch streamers who would be overjoyed to have your support

We’ll be delivering new content through the BP. As previously pointed out, the image we showed during the event was placeholder/mockup, to give you an idea of what the feature looked like.

As to why we didn’t show the content, twirls mustache, we have plans to do so later this year. Jodie, Megan, and myself have all been blown away by the art team’s hard work, and the direction we’re taking for the first several seasons.

Everyone who signs up for beta will receive access, over time. You will have at least a weekend to test and provide feedback from the beta

The Watchpoint Pack assures instant beta access
