So the only difference between buying the passes individually and buying the complete edition is that the complete edition contains all of S4... and also contains cosmetic packs, if I understand correctly?
Complete Edition is the base game, digital deluxe pack, and Season Passes 1-4. No Cosmetic DLCs.
Awesome! I also just found another thread with someone asking basically the same question as me, so my bad for jumping the gun with this.
I heard someone there suggest getting the base game + the season passes for S1, S2, and S3 since it ends up being cheaper than the "complete" edition which has S4 but that apparently won't be finished until the end of the year if I understand correctly?
Again, it definitely is a bit overwhelming lol...
So all the DLCs for Passes 1-3 are out now. The first S4 DLC came out last week, with the other two coming this Summer and end of the year, respectively.
Hey, and welcome to the Anno community! it is true that the start can be a bit overwhelming by now.
My suggestion would be that you first play the campaign with only 1-2 systemic DLCs like Bright Harvest or so. When you have beaten that (which should take you 8-12 hours or so), you might feel better prepared to start a new sandbox game with more of the big DLCs enabled.
Also, the community on this subreddit and the Annoverse Discord are lovely, and always happy to give you advice in case you ever feel swamped :)

The full price of all three standalone DLCs is around 35€, so the Pass is around 10€ worth of savings.

Base game. The thinking here is that we want trial players to be able to carry over their save game if they buy the game. If all DLCs were included, that would "force" them into buying the Complete Edition so use their save.
Good for our bottom line of course, but not a great experience for a player coming freshly to Anno :)

I continue to be impressed by these massive update notes with every GU, but I guess that's how a live service is done right. (Looking at you, BF2042)
I will be looking forward to read what the format tools regarding building skins really do. Was always confused about how they work until I read the bug on the Trello board. But they only stated that the tooltip is not correct, so ....!?
Also, looking at those scenarios with their additional mechanics and not needed goods or production chains, these seem to make a lot of additional QA testing and adjustments needed. For the Devs, it's the sandbox of pandora, I guess :D
I wish I had more time to try myself with all the scenarios, given that we will get one with each dlc this year. Especially the new one sounds like fun!! Maybe I'll give Eden burning a try now that it should be more easy, lol
