Yeah, it’s alive!
And darn, this game is good fun
Steam-native with proton experimental works out of the box for me, including the launcher.
Well, as long as Darktide has the same official support as Vermintide 2 I’m happy

Four is good number for the game in general.
But it would be nice if the game engine allowed more, to allow for future expansions and modding down the road.
Even if Darktide is melee focused, the 40k world allows for more movement related abilities and more players than four would be less of an issue than in Vermintide. I’m thinking boss fights maps, defend the hill maps, and pvp processes.
Try rebooting as well. CreateFile failed with 32 can appear if there is a crashed launch stuck in the EAC state machine (i.e. EAC is preventing EAC with file locks).
Do you have a log file you can append?
Are you normally using a proxy for browsing?
So, the EAC fix for wine worked for an older version of EAC, and they pushed a new EAC version around two days ago which broke it.
The EAC version is game specific, and FS does a good job keeping it up to date (sadly for us Linux peeps).
Did you remove EasyAntiCheat.sys
before, or did you leave it?
Is your Windows instance weird in any way? (i.e. beta-build, developer-build, not an activated instance of windows, etc?)
Just to be clear, the BSOD is a consequence of the kernel driver EasyAntiCheat.sys
somehow mismatching with your system (could be wrong version of the driver, modified windows kernel (such as a insider ring build), or something external causing the mismatch (such as overheating)).
Technically, this is (basically) the order of things when you start the game:
EasyAntiCheat_x86.dll
(which resides in the game folder in steam, i.e. if you install the game again you will get a new version of this file)EasyAntiCheat_x86.dll
in turn loads the EasyAntiCheat.sys
-driver, which resides...Ty for the additional info. I dug a bit in my logs and it does look like EAC starts fine, but there is some communication error between game and EAC.
I.e. game starts EAC, says awesome, I started EAC. EAC says, awesome I’m running. Game says sad-face, I can’t find EAC-process. EAC says awesome, I’m running and getting no errors and so forth, and EAC quits nicely when I end the game.
Anyhow, back to what I’m paid to do…
Ty for the info!
An update for the interested (in particular @OrsonMaxwell and @alsozara who liked the post):
[Info] [LauncherFinished] EACAsyncResult: 0 Message: ‘Easy Anti-Cheat successfully loaded in-game’.
[Info] Entering background wait for the game process to exit.
[Info] Game process exited with process exit code (0).

EAC loads fine with Vermintide 2, but says that the game is in an untrusted state. I wonder if that has to do with that I have to bypass...

I found something interesting when googling a bit, try “easyanticheat.sys page_fault_in_nonpaged_area”.
There are many reports saying that removing EasyAntiCheat.sys
(default location C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat\
) fixes it. EAC will just download a new version of it next time you run it, so don’t worry about it.
But to be safe, perhaps copy it to a backup location first so you can restore it if needed.
(I’m a bit involved in the EAC on Wine efforts, so EAC is particular interest of mine)
Razer Synapse 3, Razer Cortex, and Razer Chroma Kit are known to have had issues with EAC, but I thought they were fixed quite a while ago (before Vermintide supported Chroma).
I have no experience with Webroot though.
If you want to try something try disabling Chroma and Webroot. But intuitively I think it’s something else, both of them should be known by EAC, and EAC known by them.
EAC definitely identifies AHK, I thought it wouldn’t allow it actually, but should ...

Does it matter which other programs you have running at the same time? (i.e., if it has happened multiple times, do you have any suspects?)
Practically 0x50 means that EAC (or another application, but in this case the BSOD point out EAC) tried to read from memory which is not in a paged area (i.e. used).
If you want to try some things during the weekend (i...
Read moreFair point, I went off on a bit rant, but it’s nonetheless a meaningful rant and a valid critique of “fact”.
If you want to, have a look at scientific spending fifty years ago and then now. What is the major difference?
It’s who gets to approve stuff. Today large scientific investments are decided by politicians, not scientists (to be fair there are scientists in the process, but it’s nowhere close to a collegial scientific process). That is what I wrote in the text you quoted, but using other words.
If you want to, Google a bit about the terms I use, if you are curious you might find it interesting (but it terms such as metaphysics and epistemology are alien the results might be a bit dense). And also vastly out...

I think you confused the concept / ideology with an implementation? I agree with your rant about a specific implementation, but what does it have to do what I wrote?
I commented on the need of perfect information and rationality for capitalist ideals to work and you draw those conclusions based on what I said? Where did I state my opinion? Did I ever say it was a good or reasonable system given humanity?
