These were games being made by Jagex’s former owners Fukong Interactive for the Chinese market. They were in early development at the time of that video.

The games actually looked good but Fukong had financial challenges (well documented). Long story short, we don’t have a relationship with them anymore and they don’t have the rights to make RuneScape games.

Love this!

It’s also a bit like how we jmods imagine ourselves in work meetings ;)

Doubters gonna doubt :)

Yes we have, it’s actually one of those ideas that resurfaces every year or so. We’d quite like to do it eventually. As others have mentioned in this thread, it’s a huge project which would probably either need massive code refractors or completely redefining the terms of f2p vs mems (or both!).

We’ve got some big structural projects that are more beneficial to happen first before we’d get serious about a ‘free/mems merge’ as we tend to call it, higher priority projects like mobile, bank rework and getting NXT to a place we can deprecate the java client.

One day, maybe?! Would be interesting to know the communities ideal for HOW such a world sharing would work best for you and what changes (simplifications ideally) could happen of free/mems differences.

We hear you, and have been discussing options along these lines. Nothing to confirm for a while but it’s fair to say we also want to get more attention on core improvements.

(Edit: and we’re always looking to take on more engine devs)

I always keep the pulse; always reading even if not actively posting!

On the plus side, at least these complaints are about details in our RS ads rather than complaints of not doing advertising at all. A step in the right direction :)

I'm not expecting Pips to be super vocal with us like Shauny, You and recently Poerkie has been. But I'd at least expect him to be in some BTS', the Year aheads, Runefest? EoC 'trailer' and Documentary I'm pretty sure he appeared in but other than that?

I've personally never been able to go to runefest but I've always watched the streams, I know some, or a lot of areas aren't shown but I don't recall seeing Pips anywhere there

I don't understand that if he's knowledgable about what the game needs that we'd be lining up two years that haven't been great and to top it off Rs3 having a steady decline for a while now

And if he's a high level player, he himself should see problems within the game? There's also the touchy subjects of monetization in the game and Jagex trying to innovate and make new games that flop but those have been beaten like a dead horse

I lurk rather than post! I'll read our forums, the subreddits, community convos on twitter* most days. I play most weekends.

I prefer not to post because I'm not involved in the day to day of RS or OS, and the teams can speak on the specifics of their work much better than I.

*I now use a different (personal) twitter account and my Jagex/RS one has been dormant for some time... but I've removed the outdated banner that was spotted today :P

I really hope that either the jmod who said it was cancelled was mistaken or that the work is still going to be used in some form because this stuff looks amazing.

We experiment with and prototype a lot of different game ideas. We have small teams, separate from our live games, dedicated to exploring new game ideas. Part of that is trying out different art styles, camera perspectives, that sort of thing.

My old AMA is still around here, but because I deleted and remade my account it just says [deleted] unfortunately.

Once in a while, indeed :) Thanks for the kind comments.
