Tonight we will attempt to restore the trading post to its state on November 24th at 12:45PM CET (the rollback point for the affected servers). There is a significant amount data involved and the scripts will take several hours to complete. You may notice items starting to appear in the trading post (even though you can’t purchase, sell or remove them). Once the script is completed and validated through testing, we will unlock the trading post. Turning the trading post back on will require a restart.

Hello,

I have another quick update. We have continued to work to resolve the trading post contracts issue, we now know this will some take time and then we’ll need to test and verify the results. This will not be resolved today. We will update you when we have more information. I apologize for the delay.

Hello,

First and foremost, the servers are coming back up shortly.

I’d like to take a moment to explain what happened. After our patch early this morning, a separate database modification in EU was executed to grant catch up funds for players affected by in-game tax losses since the November feature release. This database change mistakenly granted very large sums not reflective of the intended amounts. Many players then spent that money, often buying large amounts of items off the trading post. As soon as we realized the error we took the EU worlds offline at 3:00PM CET to diagnose what could be done to correct it. Upon examination, it was clear that there was no clean path to reversing only the players who were granted money, as the secondary effects were widespread and involved many more players and systems. We therefore made the decision to roll back characters, companies and the trading post to 12:45PM CET, which is just before the database modification was impleme...

Hello everyone,

I’d like to take a moment of your time to address the mini-map conversation. We’ve been following the conversation on the forums and believe we understand the reasons players want a mini-map. Also we are aware that there is a perception if we implement a mini-map then players that don’t want them can simply turn it off, but in reality players may feel at a disadvantage without it.

Right now creating a mini-map is not a high priority for us as we have other items we feel are more pressing. The high level reasoning is that we have concerns with it meshing with New World’s action combat style and world design, that it could break immersion, may limit the drive for exploration, and there are technical limitations. We feel the compass fulfills the needs, fits the setting, promotes exploration, and supports combat.

Diving in to some specifics, a big part of our combat is situational awareness and the addition of a minimap may compromise this in a few w...

There are many more fixes beyond coin transfers. They might be in separate updates but we have many fixes in flight.

We are actively looking at options here. Our focus is on fixing the issue to enable us to turn coin transfers back on. Part of our make good review is to look at the impact this has had on people who owned houses and determine how to proceed. Our goal is to have players not financially impacted by turning coin transfers off.

Hi Everyone,

We are still working on fixes for the exploits addressed in this notice.

First I’d like to explain why we shut things down. We became aware that a small number of players were using packet manipulation approaches to create invalid transactions. We do use a code approach known as two phase commit, and we also use packet shaping systems for debugging, but there was an edge case with very high packet loss we had not encountered that resulted in duplicated items/currency. Server telemetry provided data that identified this pattern and the people using it; those people were banned, as will often be the case for people who exploit to their advantage. With the transfer of coin disabled, it’s possible to generate an error in a town project improvement and get money returned that you didn’t spend - this gold will be removed during the upcoming maintenance before transfer is turned back on.

I hear you are frustrated and want to make sure that no one suffers i...

Hi, as a matter of fact I do… I have a few favorite locations. I love when you enter the Azoth Tree from Brightwood where you see it through the rock formation, aesthetically one of the coolest places in the game. As far as questing areas, I like a lot of them: Rabbit Island in Restless Shores is fun, I like the action in Canary Mines, but if I had to pick one, it would be New Balefire in Mourningdale. The combination of the fishing port being slammed by rain, the hidden chests, and the proximity to Scorpius works for me.
