@GreyAlien @charlesgoatley @sergiogarces It used to be that people were mostly prevented from succeeding by gatekeepers like Steam. Now they're fail because customers just aren't interested in their work.
The second one is more psychologically challenging, but not necessarily worse.
@GreyAlien @charlesgoatley @sergiogarces It's a pretty powerful argument IMO. There are more people making more money than before. There are more 'success slots' to claim. Thus the average human's chance of being a successful indie dev has increased.
Games can't use a Hollywood-like market for screenplays or 'design documents'. It doesn't work.
What might work is a market in storyworlds. A lot of games would be improved if they started from a 300-page worldbuilding bible. And they could be written design-agnostically.
Looks like @AlistairLindsay's RimWorld soundtrack is a top seller in the Steam Sountrack Sale - congrats Al!
@webdevMason @yashkaf This is a bit Palpatine-y. I think it's probably a lot simpler - people looking for an easy, provocative take that draws discussion and thus traffic.
They're just tryin to get to the end of the month, not concocting a years-long credibility domination plan.
@Haunted_Backlog I disagree.
@realdude19 I'm not anxious, sorry if I gave that impression. Just thinking about task selection and how important it is/how it can be improved.
@jadziaxirl Oh I'm not stressed, just reflecting on how task selection works.
@Alshenso Just start following coding tutorials to make a simple game. As many hours every day as possible, and don't stop. Time on task beats everything.
I like to consider the specific task I'm doing compared to all the thousands of things I could be working on.
Considering the number of choices, the thing I'm doing is almost certainly not the best use of my time.
@CosmicMenace My personal task list is fully integrated across all life domains. For better or worse.
The most important thing in game design is not to get good at executing tasks; it is to get good at selecting tasks.
@matttwood This is also one of those stories where you probably want to bypass the media and go to the primary sources. They're easily available and the media's not going to play this one even-handed.
@matttwood It wasn't about the game itself, it was about statements he made.
Don't know the quote but having seen this many times it was likely some sentiment along the lines of 'if you don't agree with $current_year_political_shibboleth, f*ck you, don't play my game'.
@Robpsychobob @Edvoli Nah it's just assembled from random syllables.
@Robpsychobob It's French for 'grated'!
@Rhopunzel Believe it or not it happened with the RW characters too.
Yes, just those little armless, legless capsule-people.
I appreciate your appreciation.
@qoubah @frostpunkgame @rockpapershot You've very kind Jakub!
