Hello everyone,

Last night I was playing Valorant and had to reboot my machine. Upon trying to play again it kept hitting me with this screen here

Comes to find out when launching the game, it'll update your anti-cheat service to version 0.3.2.2. This version will not start on your computer startup. Instead it'll return with this error if you try and manually start it.

If you try and start the EXE file this is the error you'll get.

Here are the step to have a temp fix so that you can play. (I also made a ticket with Riot Support and waiting to hear back).

  1. Get a know copy of version 0.3.0.9 ( I have included a zip here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ogcsy2c87j0lc06/Riot%20Vanguard.zip?dl=1)
  2. Unzip the folder to a known location, you'll want to place this on your main drive as it'll be not unaccessible once we go into safe mode.
  3. To enter safe mode follow these steps ( https://www.howtogeek.com/107511/how-to-boot-into-safe-mode-on-windows-8-the-easy-way/ ) You'll want regular Safe Mode option
  4. While in safe mode go to the directory (C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard), delete everything in here.
  5. Copy the contents that we unziped into this folder.
  6. Reboot so that we are back into Normal Windows environment
  7. Go back to the path (C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard) and right-click vgc.exe -> Run as Administrator. ( “windows can not access specified device, path, or file...” might pop-up, this is normal)
  8. Wait about 10 seconds -> Reboot
  9. You can check to see if the VGC service is running by going to services.msc and that it's running. If not right-click vgc -> properties -> "Startup Type" -> Automatic
  10. Reboot
  11. The service should be running. If it's not this is also normal. (The service will start automatically when launching the game)
  12. Launch Valorant (this will overwrite the service to the new 0.3.2.2.

You'll be able to play until you reboot your machine or they update with a permanent fix.

If you have any questions, please ask below. Thank you and happy gaming!!!!!

Edit: Modified the download link so that it'll download the ZIP when you click on it

Edit #2: Found that the apps "Intel Extreme tuning Utility" and "Razer Synapse 3" Caused an issue while trying to run the newer version of the Anti-Cheat. You can find out what drivers are not signed by running the command "sigverif"

Edit #3: Found this reply from someone at Riot: (This also worked for me to get the new version working) https://www.reddit.com/r/VALORANT/comments/g3yqxd/psa_riot_vanguard_updated_today_and_blocks/fnupgsd?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

Edit #4: Please refer to your motherboard's manufacture site to see if they have driver updates if needed. Very possible that the driver is just not being updated for the new Operating System.

Edit #5: I have found reports that some VPN software will block the service from running as well.

Edit #6: open CMD prompt in admin mode, entering these commands;

bcdedit.exe /set testsigning off
bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks off

Edit #7: I love that everyone is helping each other :)

User Yushi95:

In step 4 you say to delete the folder in safe mode, but what actually fixed it for me was to click unistall in that folder and delete it from my pc, after that add the new Riot Vanguard folder and try to open it.

It says it can't be executed as we are in safe mode so we go to services and set it to "Automatic"

Then we reboot in normal mode and vgc starts now!

Neat. My power went out and now I have to go through this list again. u/RiotArkem is there an ETA on this? It's getting pretty tiresome to have to jump through these hoops to play the game =\

We're going to add better ways to control when Vanguard is running on your computer hopefully and we're also trying to be more transparent about what specific components Vanguard disagrees with to make it easier to troubleshoot.

No firm ETA but we're aiming for sometime before the next VALORANT patch.
