In August 1940, 81 years ago, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-1 made its first flight. The F variant was an improved design featuring a better shaped body, wings and a new engine. The Ki-27 took its first flight 86 years ago. During evaluation, the plane was shown to have a lower top speed and climb rate than other designs but boasted an exceptional turn rate.
