5s | Heavy tanks are the main striking force of a team, |
---|---|
8s | used specifically to plow through enemy defenses. |
11s | Vehicles of this type can take a lot of hits, |
14s | but they are equally good at dishing out punishment. |
17s | Today we’re going to talk about the most interesting tanks of the class |
20s | available in War Thunder: |
22s | the true heavyweight champions of the battlefield. |
28s | The British Caernarvon is an early prototype of the Conqueror, |
31s | fitted with a turret and a 20-pounder taken from the Centurion MBT. |
36s | The Caernarvon features an extra thick upper frontal plate |
39s | and a quick-firing, stabilized cannon with access to sub-caliber rounds. |
44s | Ten degrees of depression give the tank a lot of flexibility on uneven terrain, |
49s | and we suggest that you should really focus on hull down positioning. |
53s | Due to its low max speed and a low power engine, |
56s | the Caernarvon isn’t really that mobile anyways. |
62s | The Tiger II needs no introduction. |
64s | There are several variants of this tank available in War Thunder, |
67s | each with its own set of strengths and weaknesses. |
70s | Today, though, we are going to talk about the most well-balanced of them all: |
74s | the Tiger II with the late turret and a long-barreled 88-mm gun. |
79s | High-explosive projectiles fired by 85- and 90-mm cannons |
84s | can only pierce its frontal defenses through a machine-gun port. |
88s | More powerful guns can punch through turret cheeks, |
91s | but it’s still far from being a real weak spot. |
93s | The Tiger II is no slouch in the firepower department either: |
97s | its 88-mm KwK 43 cannon is one of the best guns at Rank 4. |
106s | The Soviet IS-4 is one of the most dreaded opponents for Rank 5 vehicles. |
111s | Its armor can easily bounce solid shot, |
113s | high-explosive, and even early sub-caliber rounds, |
117s | while its own D-25 cannon |
119s | can send most opponents back to their hangar in just one hit. |
122s | Just keep in mind that it takes the gun more than 20 seconds to reload, |
127s | so be careful so that you don’t find yourself in a pickle down the road. |
134s | The American T1E1 is a Rank 3 rockstar. |
138s | While its armor is nothing to really write home about, |
140s | the massive crew and the overall layout of the tank |
143s | allow it to take a lot of punishment. |
145s | The T1E1 is armed with a 76-mm gun that comes with a vertical stabilizer, |
151s | and you also have an additional 37-mm gun that comes in handy from time to time. |
156s | Furthermore, this heavy tank has surprisingly good mobility for its size |
160s | and is really fast in reverse. |
169s | The French B1 bis is one of the most well-armored Rank 2 tanks. |
174s | It is protected by almost 60 mm of steel all around, |
177s | including your sides and the rear. |
180s | When using the B1, you can simply disregard enemies with low-caliber guns: |
185s | their shells will just bounce off your armor like pellets. |
188s | Despite this degree of indestructibility, |
190s | you have to be really clever to be effective, |
192s | as both the 47-mm gun in the turret and the hull-mounted 75-mm cannon |
198s | have pretty low penetration rates. |
203s | The M4A3E2 Jumbo with a 76-mm cannon is a heavy, uparmored variant of the Sherman. |
210s | In a down-tier, you can be very bold and aggressive |
213s | as even Tigers and Panthers will have to rely on hitting |
216s | your weak spots to stop your rampage. |
218s | If you’re fighting against more modern tanks, |
220s | then you can rely on your stabilizer and mobility to carry you through the day. |
225s | In some combat scenarios the Jumbo serves as an excellent assault tank, |
229s | sometimes it’s more effective as a medium tank... |
231s | but it always performs well, regardless of the circumstances. |
238s | The American T26E5 and the T32 are both based on the Pershing... |
243s | and both play a lot like the original M26. |
246s | When fighting one-on-one, they do really well thanks to their sturdy frontal armor. |
251s | Furthermore, their gun depression and elevation angles are pretty good, |
255s | allowing you to use terrain to your advantage. |
257s | The T26E5 and the T32 are well-defended, well-armed, |
262s | and pretty mobile all at the same time, |
264s | which is a pretty rare combination for any class of armored vehicles. |
268s | At the same time, the duo also share a single, pretty noticeable flaw: |
272s | with all their firepower, they can still struggle a bit |
275s | with penetrating enemy defenses. |
280s | Obviously, we’ve barely scratched the surface with this list. |
284s | In War Thunder, there are lots of rare vehicles of this type. |
287s | The Soviet IS-7 and the Object 279 are heavies |
291s | that incorporate cutting-edge technologies of their time, |
294s | striking a surprising balance between armor, mobility and firepower. |
299s | The American M6A2E1 is an excellent assault tank |
303s | for people that like to bounce shots with their frontal armor. |
306s | Finally, the Maus and the E-100 are basically German moving fortresses: |
310s | they are slow, sluggish, and deadly. |
317s | But what are your favorite tanks? |
319s | Tell us in the comments below! |
