Harrier GR.1 never had AIM-9G. SRAAM is the only air-to-air missile that was proposed for GR.1, intended by Hawker to be used and tested by them for use with the RAF.

SRAAMs have not been changed at all in the past few days. Please do not spread false information.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

Nothing was changed regarding this and it remains exactly the same both in lock and targeting.

None of these options are needed.

The Harrier works exactly as it did before. Nothing was changed in that regard. SRAAMs also function as they should.

The aircraft simply got a BR increase as it was performing too well at 9.7 and is perfectly capable of fighting at 10.0 - 10.7

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

It still can and does not need to rely solely on teammates.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

Two things:

1) Significantly less people flew the F-89D compared to Harrier. It was generally around 200 people playing the F-89D.

2) It was over 5 weeks since Harrier was released for us to get the data we needed to show 10.0 was necessary.

MiG-21Bis is already at 10.7 and along with the Phantom are currently the top tier jets of the game. More aircraft are coming in upcoming updates.

If you checked the patch notes, the same patch where the Harrier went to 10.0, the A-7D also went up to 9.7.

SRAAM was also planned for GR.1, but was ultimately not followed through due to cost. In game there is no such limitation. We have several vehicles in game with similar situations. In those cases, the developers always try to use the most interesting loadouts that were possible so the aircraft is generally more interesting. Its the same case with tanks and shells. Some tanks have shells they didn't use in real life, but could.

This has nothing to do with lack of research.

The developers are fully aware of what the Harrier was and thats exactly why it was introduced how it was. Without SRAAM Harrier GR.1 is a pretty boring plane in terms of air-to-air combat and a lacklustre attacker compared to the Jaguar, Phantom and Buccaneer. Its main bonus in reality, VTOL is not as critical in game as airbases are already fairly forward and the issue of them being destroyed totally is not really relevant. SRAAM is the only air-to-air possible for Harrier GR.1.

SRAAM never went into full production, not because they did not work, but because they were simply too expansive. The British government at the time simply wanted to save money so pulled further funding from the SRAAM project in favour of buying cheaper sidewinders later on.

Im not posting it to change the perception of those who have already made their mind up. Im posting it for the benefit of those who are unaware of the situation regarding Harrier and SRAAM who sometimes fall for the misconceptions that GR.1 has no relation to SRAAM at all. Which is untrue.

Im not attempting to alter the mindset of those who dont agree with it, but for those that dont have all the information or those that make incorrect claims.

Again. A GR.1 without any form of Air-to-air is not only fairly dull but also not great for balance. As without any kind of missile, the Harrier would struggle.

This addition is not the first to use this form of weaponry choice. As I said, there are countless examples in almost all nations of aircraft or tanks that have weaponry, ordinance or shells that they simply tested, were proposed with or perhaps were linked too, but never quite made it in reality. Those people making the Harrier out to be some sort of exception to the rule seem to forget all of those.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

All tank shells are entirely down to balancing and developer decision. Lots of tanks do not have all of their "historical" shells in the same way lots of vehicles have shells, payloads, weaponry and ordinance they did not officially carry in service in reality, but were linked with, used in testing or related to the project.

SRAAM is directly related to GR.1, was proposed for it in the same way the VT-1 was for the FlakRak Rad and many other vehciles in game.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

Except the Harriers flight performance dictates it would need to be at a BR where air-to-air missiles are mostly critical for kills, yet would itself be without them, putting it in a much worse spot where it would not be useful or relevant in many situations.

So please do not take my words out of context

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

Its an example of other vehicles in game that are in the same situation as SRAAM and GR.1. Again, we are a game first. The developers always try to realise the maximum potential of a vehicle whilst maintaining balance, progression and relevance of a vehicle.

Lots of vehicles were never "actually" used at all. Nor were some shells, or some rockets, or some bombs or some configurations. Yet the game does not follow reality in a 1:1 sense.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

If we removed everything that was never used on a production vehicle in game, we would have to remove about 50% of all of the most interesting and used shells, payloads and weaponry used in game.

We have no plans to remove SRAAM since it was directly linked and proposed for GR.1 by Hawker themselves, tested on their company demonstrator Harrier and not adopted only based on the pollical situation at the time, which has no impact or barrier in game.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

The Hunter and Harrier are two separate aircraft and both strong in their own rights. The UK tree already has plenty of capable ground attackers in the Phantoms, Jaguars, Canberra's, Sea Hawk, Scimitar, Buccaneer and Meteor Reaper. We do not introduce aircraft designed to "fit" a specific BR as BRs are not a fixed factor, but a dynamic moving one.

There are jets on all sides that don't have flares and RWR at 10.0. The Harrier is no exception to this.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

Spamming this multiple times a day isn't going to make it happen or possible im afraid.

Again, the complaints about the Harrier were only 1 half of the story. Its statistics at 9.7 showed it needed a BR change.

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

I have played it and in fact even met you in battle where you saw me get 2 kills

I also shared all my results from the games I played with it since it went up. After which, I was over 250,000 SL +

over 3 years ago - Smin1080p - Direct link

We had mixed and there was also just as much opposition. The possibility for the MM to create a mixed battle still remains, but at a much lower chance.

As for team composition, as is made very clear by your screenshots, the number of people playing PFM at the moment is going to greatly skew the matchmaker simply down to how much people are playing it. So these screenshots don't really tell a lot other than what's currently being played a lot due to being a new event vehicle.
