21s watching it's pretty exciting we have
24s two amazing members of the Digital
26s Extremes art team here today so without
28s further ado I'd like to introduce my
30s panelists first panelist leg always over

102s you what we've been working on behind
104s the scenes in warframe
106s you guys know everything this panel you
108s don't know the order so this is the most
111s prepared panel of the day thank you very
115s much for the artists of D for helping us
117s get this together as well there's an
119s amazing art team of course just to the
122s awesome leads on the project but I'll
124s give you a bit of an agenda um again

130s panel you guys are both actually
132s returning guest Steve Sinclair was
133s supposed to be on the panel and then
134s he's like I'm gonna sign
136s boo well no we likes to eat it's fine we
139s are going to be doing art reveals we're
140s gonna do an art quiz at the end I don't
143s know if I prepared you for that for us
144s or for them you but you can call on the
147s audience okay so it's fine and then
149s we'll do a Q&A at actually do we have a
151s Q&A mic set up maybe maybe not we have
154s an extra mic onstage we'll figure it out

158s the first place we're gonna go with our
160s art is the environment and we're gonna
162s talk about the Arsenal so cool we're
165s gonna start there we're gonna take a
167s look at a before and after shot of
168s coming changes to your Arsenal's and
171s then you can walk us through that from
172s an artist's perspective yeah absolutely
188s yeah well yeah this is before and after
190s I mean left side 2014 and the right side
194s is yet to be released but coming soon to
197s a Lisette and operatorship near you this
201s is you know as a lot of things are this
204s is Steve saying hey I really want this
207s to be the thing that we do and me going
209s oh my god really we got to do that
211s alright we can do it and then making it
214s happen and this is the hard work of our
216s team there's some you know legacy stuff
219s in here in this shot but for the most
222s part it's it's all brand new and that's
225s you know there's a few artists listed
227s down there but that you know there's a
230s lot of people as always that contribute
232s but yeah this is this will be coming
235s soon yes you're gonna hear Steve brag
237s about this a lot at the end of the day
240s everyone listening now needs to react
243s really loudly when Steve talks about
244s this later tonight yes pretends very so
248s to give people at home a closer look
249s this is dope this is the interior we
251s know and love you know maybe it's
253s missing a room bug or two and then it's
255s gonna get upgraded with this this is
258s just a closer view and of course we have
260s more angles because what would
262s environment art be without summer that's
264s right yeah of course yeah
265s you know like we this being as old as it
268s is was something that we kind of take
270s for granted a little bit you know and
272s people decorate it we give everyone the
274s opportunity to do what they want color
276s customize and all that stuff and we see
279s it so often and it's kind of hard
280s sometimes to realize just how old and
283s how dated things look and you know as we
287s grow as we kind of produce the game we
289s learn new stuff and the team really
292s killed it like it really it looks
294s fantastic in my humble and a big credit
298s to the graphics programmers as well this
300s is a new renderer that's coming door
301s frame which against evil brag about a
304s lot later on yeah and I mean I'm just so
307s those in the audience who play warframe
308s no I have copied my account to the new
311s environment and all my decorations are
313s preserved
314s there's no concerns that you're gonna
315s lose that's right yeah that's a great
318s point you do not need to start from
320s scratch and decorating it simply is
322s there for the most part of course we
324s haven't tested every permutation but I'm
326s pretty sure it's gonna be totally fine
327s yeah everything you know there might be
329s a little bit of misalignment but it's
332s all stuff that you can fix but we've
334s taken really we take a lot of pains to
337s really make sure that everything was
338s going to be intact you know the
341s behind-the-scenes stuff that needs to be
342s in the right place is all there and all
344s the decoration that you guys have done
346s all that stuff will be resettable or or
348s tweakable if it has to be and then our
351s goal in the coming months is to take
354s this approach to the rest of the
356s operator ship and the rest end to the
358s Lysette itself so this visual upgrade
361s and currently is just this room and the
364s machines but it will be the entire ship
368s and all the component parts soon Jim
372s yeah we don't give dates you should know
374s that by now we'll just say soon we do
376s have some concepts because all of the
378s art in the game always stops starts in
379s the concept phase so we can just take a
382s look at these if you have anything to
383s say otherwise I'll just hidden you know
384s as you yeah this is this is concept work
387s by Sean Begum and he's one of our
389s long-term concept artists
391s and I'm sure all of you have seen the
393s great work that he's done and you know
397s there's we always start here you know
400s the end project is maybe not exactly as
403s drawn here but this always serves as a
405s jumping-off point as you would expect
406s for it you know what we do and for the
409s final product it's awesome anyone here
411s interested in becoming an artist like is
413s there an art crowd here y'all yep

417s there's look there's so many members of
420s the art team that contribute you of
421s course we just gone through concept
422s you've gone through some environments we
424s will be covering more after but then of
425s course there's on the character team as
427s well so characters that we know and love
431s starting concepts I'm not an artist I'm
432s gonna stop talking and you can good
435s I feel bad ray our lead character artist
438s wanted to be here today but he literally
439s was working on one of these assets until
441s 10:00 this morning I don't think
443s Lucas updated it so I'm gonna have to
446s pull up something we'll see we'll see
455s Dean Bergman is gonna kill me but I
458s think I have the asset on slack so I'm
460s gonna send it to him I love you Dean
464s Bergman and then after the PowerPoint
466s you're gonna pull it up Dean that's how
467s we're gonna that's how we're gonna do
469s this one so yeah don't hate me

516s this was arson he's a he started out as
518s a community artist he did a concept for
520s Grenier soldier we reach out to him he
522s just did the Gerudo deluxe design and
524s when he was when he was finished that
527s design we just wanted to keep him
528s working as quick as possible and it was
531s as simple as we just thought he'd do a
532s really cool ash so I think he kind of
534s did first look at the yeah v2 yep
540s so just in case you missed it we all
542s said hi to Ray everyone's watching this
544s day I don't know if they heard you but
545s we're good Ray's our lead character
547s artist he was working on an asset that I
549s sent to Dean over slack for the end of
551s the presentation he said he has it we're
554s good

558s in the deluxe skin reveals which you can
561s learn more about today the artist we'll
563s be talking about this skin in their
564s panel downstairs so perhaps you saw hero
567s deluxe on the schedule and you're like
569s what the heck is that

581s so this was done by an internal
583s character artist called Samuel and he
587s like Rebecca said I would highly
588s recommend going to see his panel he's
590s going if you're interested in character
592s art especially I think it's downstairs
594s but he's gonna be going over this design
596s and he's gonna be showing how he kind of
598s constructed it and building some pieces
599s for it at - look at two o'clock we got
603s the time that's awesome this would be
605s amazing who's a hero main here oh nice

610s all right I'll waive another actually
612s this is an update from a last year
614s deluxe concept and now we have the model
616s oh right that's right
624s I think we I was talking to haha
628s I was talking to Nikita who's the artist
631s who built it and I think we showed this
632s concepts last year last ten yeah so he's
637s put a ton of work into this and it's
639s turned out beautifully so and the the
641s butterflies will have a custom skin as
643s well so your razor plies will be skinned
645s as well so it should be great next up
648s this is a first reveal of another deluxe
650s skin oh yeah yeah you can see it I can
652s see it yeah this asset came in yesterday
654s so maybe new to even the art team up
656s here but you know what it is great I
658s think this is I borrow deluxe
669s Mike's tires the character artist evaru
671s is kind of his baby there was like one
672s of the first war frames he built I think
674s as a character artist a.d so he really
676s wanted to you know kind of make this one
678s personal for him and yeah she turned out
680s amazing
680s I don't know there's anything great you
681s want to say about it no you just
686s enjoying all the views that's pretty
688s awesome okay wait but before the next
690s look before the next slide you can I
693s think we can all agree that Excalibur
695s doesn't really have enough cosmetic
697s options in the game and this one was a
701s little selfish of me cuz I'm not sure
704s how many people here know the name liger
705s lighter that's that's awesome that's
708s awesome a very amazing artist who
712s started out in our community and if
714s people know are working with us a bit
715s more closer now and I just said I would
718s love to see as a fan of their work what
721s lagger would do with a deluxe Excalibur
723s and so they made one and here we go
739s so cloth animation cloth animation yeah
743s it's gonna make our Technic animators
745s cry a little bit but we can do it I
747s really I just I really love this design
750s it's so much there's so many details to
753s it I mean first of all are we going to
755s put the pipe in so pipe yes this is yeah
763s I'd say nation so we've never really
766s done this before like I really wanted
768s the pipe incorporated and she they
770s pitched it as like an all tome but I
774s don't think it's really worth selling as
777s an all time in that regard so I was
778s thinking for the first time as that
780s deluxe it might be cool to do custom
782s Idol sets just because just because we
787s can so it's interesting you say these
789s things when it's like the most watched
791s stream and you have the most commitment
792s now but it's also like just honestly
797s like I'm even just such a fan of this
798s that it's it's kind of just fun for fun
801s for me to do it too so yeah I think Idol
803s sets are good way to do it but it's not
804s gonna be tobacco it's gonna be vest in
807s moss and we're not gonna that's right
809s promote smoking anarchy it's cosmetic
812s it's cosmetic it's fine
813s our next deluxe skin is from actually a
816s legendary artist of Magic the Gathering
818s Pete Venters we worked with him on this
821s one yeah I think even you kind of
823s arranged the the kind of like he did a
827s series of lips with us and then he's
829s super super huge warframe fan so we let
831s him go nuts with a nova skin so
837s we have thought that Rebecca is a fan of
839s magic this will be a the inside will all
844s be energy so it she's gonna be hollow
846s filled with energy so that'll be pretty
849s awesome
850s yep it's pretty great we are gonna move
852s on to weapons now so these are some I
856s don't know how to put into context the
857s next slide just don't alright just a hey
861s future stuff future staff stay tuned see

868s what's this pay attention to the name

879s set for a specific art style for the
882s degree that we're exploring which will

890s world again this is gonna be sorry I
893s said weapons I lied we're going back to
895s characters but we're not going to war
896s frames we're going to an enemy infested
899s ancient so what's happening here is this
905s related to the next series next oh I
910s think it might be I think it so yeah so
913s yeah so night wave we're doing another
917s night wave series coming up and this
920s obviously will be the theme that's
921s surrounding it so we're doing some
922s custom enemies built for for the next
925s series so beware get your way what's the
929s best damage type against infested okay I
932s guess it depends use magnetic damage
936s right all right sorry that was a
941s warframe joke kind of we've another this
945s is a character but in the cute sense
949s it's this expansion
954s yeah just some more expansion for the
957s trapping gameplay this will be a beard
961s stuff is this our first hoped creature
963s have we added is it the first one yeah
966s well Oberon is not a creature he's a
970s warframe just some trivia from 10 icon
973s those are canon now so alright next up
977s we have another weapon bundle this is a
979s new one yep
980s what's all this so this is pretty badass
984s this is uh Kaz who designed all this
987s stuff and built it they made a custom
990s set for the upcoming empyrion rail Jack
992s set so that is a massive wave we got but
997s the primary or so that yeah the price
998s it's a archwing primary and it's a multi
1000s type targeted missile launcher and we
1003s already have that prototype in its
1004s working pretty well in game so it's kind
1006s of ones where you hold down on the aim
1007s hover hover over enemies release it's
1010s pretty awesome yeah okay this next slide
1013s you'll have to do a lot of
1015s contextualizing because I hope you're
1017s ready because modular you guys think
1019s saws you think kit guns you got your
1021s modular mail a modular secondary but
1023s what about modular art wing
1033s wait another ten Okan trivia that's the
1037s first time people have applauded
1038s archwing I'm joking
1043s again awesome work but awesome work Mike
1047s as I have no idea what the systems will
1049s be involved for how these work but the
1051s art school so anyone else know cool art

1072s upcoming warframes
1073s I think some of you might know from our
1075s last dev stream but we figured you might
1078s want to get a closer look at Grendel and
1083s I don't think the videos playing is it
1085s playing what kind of gift is that it's
1088s not a gif anymore I don't think I can't
1103s you need more practice rep yeah so
1109s Scott's currently working on the power
1110s set for this guy but we if the gif
1112s worked we have a whole bunch of the idle
1114s animations it's important just if I can
1120s say something yeah so for the alt helmet
1123s they're supposed to be like an effects
1125s in front oh yes that's right supposed to
1129s look like it's it's kind of like Unicron
1132s when it's devouring Cybertron that's a
1137s good reference is anyone in the crowd
1139s good at IT that might be able to hit a
1141s play button it's fine no I'm making it
1145s awkward now so yeah actually hold on it
1149s is powerful no but I want to just play
1152s all right whatever I'll come back to it

1156s Dementor in the crowd looking at me like

1160s is a this is the cosmetic set to go as
1162s Grendel and is Custer
1164s his custom club that will animate how

1174s slash damage gas alright so next up is a

1187s sucks because I had him out of frame at
1189s the beginning so it's a we're gonna take
1191s a look at our next warframe Goss but you

1285s by lagger and it's the cosmetic set and
1287s the custom pistols to go with him I
1290s think when he was still called sapient
1291s as a code name now the next asset is
1296s what Ray was working on but this is a
1298s different version of it so I don't know
1300s if you want to show your version first
1301s or the main one it doesn't matter okay
1304s so you're gonna look at something brand
1306s new and then at the end of this you're
1307s gonna see Ray's version of it most
1309s people have seen it anyway pardon
1310s most people have seen it anyway oh we
1313s right they have because every time we
1315s try prime access get spoilered
1322s so you will hopefully you know in the
1327s next little while
1328s get your hands on one crying and an
1330s amazing kubrow skin that's a full well
1332s you guys can talk a little bit about
1333s what's going on here in this prime
1334s access yeah the idea with the Kouros
1337s skin is I know people have requested a
1342s skin from for like what's that Wolfe
1345s from Metal Gear Oh Metal Gear wolf
1348s anyone rising I heard it laid wolf yeah
1354s that one so yeah we said why not why
1358s don't we do like a full skin for like a
1360s warframe that's more uh I mean a kubrow
1362s that's more mechanical looking so there
1365s you go so your mechanical dog fantasies
1368s are coming in warframe so this will be
1370s incredible you can get a closer look at
1372s this with his custom signed on ax and
1375s again that incredible looking who
1378s triskin yep I'm ready and next up just
1383s further just more bukhan stuff yep just
1385s the the bundle to go with them the
1386s weapon and custom men chucks yep
1390s our first prime nunchucks first prime
1393s crossbow - not that we have a lot to
1395s choose from but they're amazing so yeah

1504s next one is gonna be a bit of a
1506s cliffhanger cuz I'm not gonna give you
1507s the right answer but foot or not well it
1517s is a foot it's nervous all right so
1521s let's talk about the new War in the
1523s sentience oh boy sorry we're at a time
1530s everyone thanks so much so this is all
1534s so the sequence is really just us making
1537s excuses for why it's still not out yet
1540s it's like we are I think as I we might
1544s have talked about this on a dev stream
1545s but the new war hasn't shipped that
1549s quest because it's really a lot more
1551s than a quest we're kind of expanding the
1554s world of warframe with it we're building
1555s a new tileset for the sentience and it's
1559s something that started well didn't start
1560s we try it we've been trying to do this
1562s for a long time
1563s or four or five years ago long I thought
1565s showed concept art like at a 10 upon 3
1568s years so this is about four or five
1571s years old and you know we started on
1574s this when you know warframe was a lot
1577s simpler it was just we had enemy faction
1579s tilesets and we're like of course we
1580s need to sentience set but we just kept
1584s struggling with you know the balance of
1586s representing the sentence with a
1588s playable functional space and not being
1591s too much of visual chaos you know for
1594s the player and I think you know we had
1596s assets that we just there's too much to
1598s show but Matt and the guys tried
1601s building sets like this that you know
1603s okay they look beautiful on the surface
1606s but then the second you try to put a
1607s game's place and a functional like a
1610s functional gaming space out of this it
1611s just it was too
1613s we couldn't lock it down it was too hard
1614s to put gameplay into it it was one of
1616s the toughest challenges with that
1617s because we had we had characters which
1620s we loved yeah and you know when you're
1622s trying to develop a new race you want to
1624s try to connect the two it makes us you
1626s know where did these characters come
1627s from where do these beings come from and
1629s you try to represent and tie the things
1631s together in meaningful ways and stuff
1633s that looks great and an illustration or
1635s a concept we just kept struggling as we
1638s tried to translate that to 3d and we got
1641s some really cool stuff but very cool
1642s stuff how do you turn this into a
1644s functional gameplay space yeah they
1646s tried they tried there's lots there's
1648s lots and lots of levels that are out
1650s there there in the bin you know because
1652s they tried to they tried to replicate
1653s this I think we probably have a games
1655s worth of levels or at least an entire
1656s tile sets worth of levels stuff
1658s we're tried and failed and you know like
1661s Big Ups props to the team and the teams
1664s that have been working on this thing
1666s there's been some people that have been
1668s there since day one and this is a
1669s multi-year bang your head against the
1671s wall try and try again
1674s and I think like you will see in the
1676s next few slides like how awesome that it
1679s has turned out like it's it's it's has
1682s flavors of the original concepts but
1684s it's just so much more so a huge round
1687s of applause for the from us see that
1689s team that's been working on it because
1690s it's super grace anyone in the audience
1691s right now on the de our team anyone
1693s watching their work up here I'm trying
1694s to see any hands I see one they're all
1696s hiding and I see - I see - so when we
1705s kind of like when we were hitting the
1706s wall with that we made a pivot you know
1709s yeah to kind of lure behind the sentence
1711s is that like a sentient is a sentient
1714s they're all they're all a character and
1716s we thought about okay well let's take a
1717s step back and design this tile space as
1720s as a character and the idea of the you
1724s know that this mothership during the old
1726s war went beyond the void and kind of got
1730s severed and destroyed and has made its
1732s way back and is trying to slowly rebuild
1734s itself and Keith Thompson who's been on
1736s some panels with us before he's worked
1738s with us for years did it pass here and
1740s you know we kind of loved where he's
1742s going but it looked a bit too demonic
1743s but we wanted to keep the idea of the
1746s monster I think we showed this last year
1747s so this is the idea of the mothership
1751s the sentient mothership and the the red
1754s kind of filigree is how it kind of you
1758s know we kind of like this idea of the
1759s organic kind of quality to these these
1761s robots so this is the ship kind of
1765s rebuilding itself where you see the kind
1766s of red kind of things and tissue so we
1769s go from concept so we started with the
1771s exterior and then this was kind of the
1774s mesh and then Steve had this really cool
1777s idea for the sentience that they kind of
1781s became religious you know in their in
1783s their collective so we wanted to kind of
1786s when we got to the interior spaces kind
1787s of see how Cathedral kind of vibes would
1790s play so again this is Keith Thompson
1792s doing some more exploration and cool
1795s stuff but I think just a bit too
1797s on-the-nose
1797s for the cathedral vibe for us but we
1801s were getting closer we were feeling good
1803s so then we kind of pivoted to the the
1804s internal team kind of the baton got
1807s passed to them and they started to
1809s explore the ideas of it and this is a
1811s kind of how the mothership rebuilt
1813s yourself you can kind of see some debris
1816s in there that's getting pulled into the
1818s ship and to give you an idea scale
1819s there's like an ax broken tower that's
1820s coming in so it's just sitting in space
1822s kind of pulling in all this debris to
1824s kind of use it as fuel to kind of debate
1828s the laws of mass must be it comes from
1831s yeah so based off this idea we started
1835s getting closer so this was Marco who did
1837s a concept art that were like okay this
1838s is starting to feel good it's speaking
1839s to both the cathedral elements that we
1843s like and the sense of it rebuilding on
1845s the interior so this is when we felt
1847s really confident
1848s and we're like okay yet we're getting
1849s closer and we're really kind of hitting
1851s these kind of gothic vibes with with the
1854s interior spaces yeah so all this stuff
1858s we just started to come together and I
1860s think this is all the stuff that we kind
1861s of like okay we're gonna move on to
1863s production and we started building these
1864s spaces level design and the delay of
1868s team sort of putting spaces together for
1870s this and it's a video so you're gonna
1873s need to give me 26 yeah so red can to
1876s play we actually kind of have kind of
1880s the progression of the gameplay space
1881s now all right so how did I do this the
1884s last time is the question part it
1890s shaking it
1891s did you fullscreen the play um didn't I
1896s think I had I'd presenter view and then
1899s I hit
1900s nope no I got it got it there should be
1904s sound
1963s yeah so there it is
1972s all right now who's ready to go there
1975s and kill the Lotus now who's ready to go
1980s there and maybe save the Lotus wait
