@mikegalvin_ https://www.cbloom.com/rants.html 06-15-20 the horses mouth :) We just use it! GPUs use 'blocks' of 4x4 pixels w/'less/lossy data'. Ignorant of other blocks in texture! But-what if you were aware of the other blocks and tried to reuse same values more? More compressible! Hard in practice!

@mikegalvin_ Preparing texture and one block had 196,0,0 color RGB? Then you compressed the next block and it had 198,0,0 RGB. Just compress to disc and ship to players. ELI5: this stuff cares and says 'hmm you both look fine sharing 197,0,0'... compressor is going to love that duplication.

@mikegalvin_ Doing this in a way that doesn't harm the image dramatically is what makes OodleTexture alien space magic!

@SebAaltonen Impressive - how do you handle piecemeal mesh destruction/fragmentation over time? Or is your use case block load level and dump at end?
