For TennoCon 2019, we continued the tradition of announcing new content during our that we’ll be bringing to the program this year -- but with a bit of a twist! Skyers and Kaz both live modelled some of the new content types we announced.
While we can’t share the full workshop, we can share what was discussed and revealed (as well as the concepts I tortured them into making a reality).
Let’s get right into it!
New Factions
Since October 2015, TennoGen creations have been loosely tied to the four core Warframe Factions: Tenno, Corpus, Grineer, and Infested (and their various sub-factions).
Warframe has grown a lot since 2015, and so it’s time to expand the Factions for the creators and the community! Expect these new Factions to appear in our Faction Style Guide hopefully soon:

New Melee Meshes
Dual-Handed Nikana
Whether you know it as the Odachi or the Tatsu, these big swords will be available in the workshop by the end of July -- but hopefully much sooner.
Whips
Whips are a challenging melee weapon to model meshes for, which is why it took us so long to add them. There are strict guidelines that need to be followed for animations to work properly, and we will need to restrict a creator’s ability to alter the whip chain geometry to ensure there are no issues.
Technical details out of the way, whips are a very dynamic-looking weapon type and we can’t wait to see what the community comes up with! It’s our goal to get the full technical details released and ready for Whip submissions by the end of July. Please do not make Whips before then, since there are strict guidelines for the handles that need to be followed!
New Content Type
Chest Armor Pieces
After almost 4 years of Skins and Syandanas, armor pieces seem like the logical next step for Warframe customization in TennoGen!
We’re starting small with chest armor only, and we will evaluate adding shoulder and leg plates where possible. This type of cosmetic is quite a bit of work to set up, so we want to test the implementation of chest pieces for our team before we look to expanding into full armor sets.
Expect a full write-up of technical requirements and guidelines again hopefully by the end of July.
In the meantime, here are the Whip and Armor concepts we modeled during the workshop just for fun:
Spoiler
(Unfortunately neither of these meet the program requirements, so we can’t add them to the game, even though I asked very very nicely).
That’s about it! Feel free to leave any questions you have in this thread and we’ll do our best to answer them. We don’t have any other news on new content, including Operator Suits, for those wondering. Our current focus is on what was announced above.
