@JonOlick Yes, spent a few weeks on this very same thing a few months back! Carry error forward, search harder for predictors... can easily do much better than MS AdpcmEncode. Check out sox!

@JonOlick Thanks Jon! Really it's just Sox predictor look ahead search with static noise shaping (https://github.com/dbry/adpcm-xq) ffmpeg is fast but takes many shortcuts (no predictor search, rounding compromises that drift from xaudio decoder, clean code though) Dyn shaping didn't pan out YMMV.
