Will still likely check it out but if possible, please look into a way to do Nightmare Challenges in an existing save!!

Zero plans to implement nightmare challenges into existing saves, as it's complex how they're granted across the save slots and the entire point is to give people an additional chase item if they want it.

When we first mentioned nightmare and hardcore as a hypothetical addition to the game we said it would require a new game save.

What buck? This isn’t content we’re charging for. We delivered a new difficulty with totally optional rewards tied to difficulty as was the number one most requested feature from the players reading Reddit, discord, and Steam forums.

No I’m reaffirming that our game isn’t an online, seasonal focused games as a service title that lives or dies by player numbers and instead is a self contained experience that lives forever that anyone can play whenever they want and however they want.

If there was any plan to release new content, if the playerbase was large enough, they would care deeply about player retention. Hell, if they cared about the project at all past solely being a means of short-term profit player retention would matter.

Respectfully, you're putting words in my mouth, and I also feel the original and continued use of "player retention" in this context is incorrect mainly due to the term's usage in online games & sp titles is quite different.

Online games rely on continuous player engagement over long periods, linked to monetization strategies like microtransactions in rotating stores etc. This as well as the onboarding and quest drop requires player retention to be finely tuned so they keep coming back daily and converting over and over to keep the service running. We do not operate a live game anymore; we do not look at retention numbers over 30/14/7/1 day intervals. It is irrelevant.

Single-player retention ensuring players complete the main experience and return for optional or new content if they deem the title worth of their time. We've heard people deem the game worthy of their time and they want a reason to return once they feel they got their money and time's worth, so we delivered.

What you are explaining now is a direct contradiction to the short and blunt comment you made in response to the initial commentors' constructive player feedback.

We wanted to give a quick update on the rest of 2024!

We realize it has taken longer than anticipated to get the Xbox version of the game out and we appreciate your patience! Our goal is for the game, along with the Critical Role Supporter Pack, to be available by end of the year. We’re excited to welcome Wayfinders on the Xbox Series X|S, who will be playing with Wayfinders across the other platforms and when we have a release date, we’ll share it.

As 2024 winds down, we’re preparing another major update that brings some highly requested features from players. The 1.1 update, expected in December, will include:

  • Save Slots
  • Nightmare Difficulty & exclusive cosmetic rewards
  • New collectible items from our previous holiday event
  • New artifacts
  • Bug fixes, and other improvements.



Nightmare is a new difficulty setting even tougher than Heroic, and with it introduces one of the most requested features: rewards for completing ultimate challenges at the highest difficulty level! These rewards persist across all save slots once they’re unlocked in Nightmare mode, applying to both existing and new save files.



The challenges offer rewards like dyes, personas, and housing items that grant crafting resources like Spectra and Archaic Bones, along with memory fragments and gold. Over 35 new items are available for those who complete all challenges, including a special reward for those who complete every challenge.



Nightmare Difficulty is only available when starting a New Game and cannot be changed once selected. However, it comes with enhanced drops, including empowered versions of all existing artifacts and three new artifacts exclusive to Nightmare difficulty. The ultimate min/maxer’s challenge awaits!



We’ve previously announced mods coming before the end of the year. With our timeline and focus on these other platforms and features, mods won’t be coming before the end of the year. We’ll share more details about the 1.1 update in the coming weeks! Keep an eye on our social channels for sneak peeks of these exciting new features.

Could be salvageable with something like main story progress carry over though…who wants to really do that again.

As mentioned a few times in this thread a lot of people have asked for a reason to replay the game in a pseudo NG+ type of way.
