Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.
With each topic I discuss, I also added a question at the end to see how y’all feel about things in comparison to how I feel. I just thought it would be an interesting way to get some discussion going!
Also, as you will see, the Log is a little light this week. I had a lot of behind-the-scenes work this week, which gave me less time to play the game than I would have hoped. Still wanted to include what I did do, though!
Without further ado, let’s proceed with this week’s Log!

1. Progress the Japanese DD Line
Japanese DDs
After spending so much time with my beloved BBs over the past few weeks, I made the executive decision to return to other classes, as I want to continue to develop as a player and get a more broad understanding of the game. The last line that I was working on was the Japanese DDs, so I rolled my sleeves up and got to work (for the few matches I even had time for this week, lol). This was an interesting week as I made progressions from the Isokaze to a Tier 5 destroyer, so a decision needed to be made. Do I go the Shimakaze line or the Harugumo line. After a bit of research, it seems the differences between the two namely reside in their damage dealing methods. Do I prefer a gunboat line or do I prefer a torp boat line? My personal history dictates that gunboats may be how I lean, but I decided to go with the Shimakaze line, as that line appears to me more popular and I want to get a little bit outside of my comfort zone in this game. After all, how else do you learn? With the decision made, I unlocked the Mutsuki and played a singular match before I had to get back to work. I don’t have a lot of strong impressions yet other than her torpedoes reload pretty slowly and thus I will have to be a little bit more strategic in how I use her. I look forward to taking her out more and progressing further in my World of Warships journey.
Question: People clearly have opinions as to which line they prefer when it comes to Japanese DDs, but how do you feel about each line in the middle tiers (let’s say 5-7)? Does one stand out over the other?
