Greetings Captains,

I just wanted to let you know that due to me attending a certain speedrunning charity event for the entirety of last week, there will not be a new entry in the New Player Captain's Log today, 7/5. I haven't had a sufficient amount of time to play the game and thus I won't have much to share.

However, I did want to create a thread just in case any other new players (or experienced players, for that matter) wanted a space to be able to discuss their weekly experiences, ask questions or just have some lighthearted discussions!

Can't wait to be back with y'all next week! Until then, fair winds and following seas!

I definitely plan on it! Co-op has been good for me to just get a general sense of how subs while mitigating my impact on my team, but I will def take them into Randoms soon.

Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

Eagle-eyed readers of this blog might also notice that last week, I introduced something brand new to the fold: Questions! With each topic I discuss, I also added a question at the end to see how y’all feel about things in comparison to how I feel. I just thought it would be an interesting way to get some discussion going!

I also wanted to point out that due to me volunteering in-person at a popular speedrunning event, I did not get to play as much as I would have liked to. Nonetheless, I played somewhat and wanted to shared the experiences that I had.

Without further ado, let’s proceed with Week 22!

Actually, good news @Yamashiro42! We were able to get that fixed sooner rather than later:

I am not sure if it is intentional or not, but I have a question in with our proper teams to see if I can find out. Because it's Friday (and in the late evening in EU), we may not get an answer right away.

Commanders!
There is a mistake in bonuses of “Messenger of Oblivion” for Bismarck and “Lord of the Seekers” for August von Parseval permanent camouflages: they have +50% credits bonus but should have +50% XP bonus instead.
We plan to fix this mistake tonight, and these permanent camouflages will provide standard economic bonuses.
Players who’ve obtained these camos in any way before 23:59 UTC 25th of June are eligible for 5000 doubloon refunds irrespective of discounts until the release of 0.11.6. The refund only affects these two camouflages, so other items from the bundles are not touched.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello everyone!
As many of you pointed out, the buttons for selecting "Autobots" or "Decepticons" in the article were not working initially, but should be functional now. If you are still seeing problems, refresh the page and/or restart your game client and try again.

Do you have a preference for attacking or defending? If so, which one?

Ooh good tips! I think when it's time to move on to another cruiser line I might look at French, because I have heard some people echo the same sentiments as you.

I spent a lot of time working on operations in some previous iterations of this blog, but it has been some time. Maybe I should play them a bit more now for the very reasons you outlined.

Comment

If you have a Permanent Camo, it will be separated into a visual component and a permanent bonus component. As usual, the visual will always be available to you. The permanent bonus will also automatically be applied to your ship. If you have multiple permacamos for one ship, you will automatically get the best possible permanent bonus applied to your ship.

2. Continued to make strides when it comes to Italian Cruisers
3. Explored submarines in Co-op

The Venezia is definitely the appealing carrot dangling at the end of this line for me, lol.

This is definitely important to highlight. How it was framed to me is that due to the fact that you can easily get spotted in smoke when firing, the smoke can be used more for emergency getaways and large turns that leave you exposed. I tend to favor gunboats over torpboats anyways, so I wasn't in the mind to get close and smoke up anyways.

This is really good advice that a few people have shared with me, actually. PT seems to be a really good thing to take for someone who is starting out (like me). As people continue to learn and grow, it obviously will become less important to take. But for now, it does seem to be useful!

Agreed! I learned so much about the use of SAP by simply analyzing armor schemes at the tiers I am focusing on. Don't get me wrong, it is a lot to remember. But there are still some general use tips that can be applied at large once you understand how your armor and the armor of your competitors works.

Comment

Yup, this is exactly my strategy as of now. I am not doing anyone any favors by playing at higher tiers when I don't know the strategies to do so. I'm enjoying broadening my horizons in the middle tiers quite a bit.

Accomplishments
Here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:

1. Spent most of my time playing a class other than Battleships
2. Unlocked the Montecuccoli and the Trento

Focus Points of the Week
I had just one very simple focus point for this week:

1. Work on general cruiser strategies with Ahskance
2. Continue to improve on Italian cruisers

Improving with Italian Cruisers Ships: Giussano, Montecuccoli, Trento

As I continue to hover in these middle tiers, it seems like a good idea for me to branch out and start to learn and understand non-Battleship classes bette...
