Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

Without further ado, let’s proceed with Week 8!

Accomplishments
Here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:

1. Played in my first ever Clan Battles with Clan WG
2. Once again played several rounds of Dirigible Derby

Focus Points of the Week
After talking to a number of you in last week’s thread, I made a few changes in focus that I think were beneficial to my learning experience. Here’s a few things I accomplished:
1. Using the Priority Target skill in even more builds
2. Practice at using the Moskva more effectively.

Dirigible Derby
I considered making the title of this week’s post Down and Derby 3: Electric Cruiser-loo but thought better of it. Still really enjoy the game type and thanks to advice I got last week as well as some new experiences with Clan Battles (more on that later), I think I took a small step forward in handling the Moskva, which remains the only viable option I have for the game type. My positioning seems to have improved, and my damage output along with it!

Ship used: Moskva Observations: I still have that sense of feeling overwhelmed at Tier X, but since I improved in my positioning, I definitely feel a bit better about it now. I find that I am doing quite a bit more damage now, but my winrate in the game type is staying more or less the same, so I am not confident that I am being more useful just because I am doing more damage, if that makes sense. Things I need to be more cognizant of:
1. Location, in relation to Positioning - Now that I am feeling a bit more comfortable on how to position myself, I also need to keep in mind that this is a moving game type, and me sitting there hitting people only goes so far in Derby. I need to be more fluid in my map positioning while still keeping my ship positioning in mind.

CVs - Tier VI Randoms
As with previous weeks, I decided to focus on a class of ships that I feel that I have been neglecting, so I turned to CVs. As of right now I only have the Langley and the Ranger, so I went with the Ranger to ensure that I would play against other people. I’d say it was a middling success overall. I most often survived (as you all know, that is a focus of mine), but I feel as though that I struggle to find how and where to use my planes most effectively.

Ship used: Ranger Observations: I do get a small sense of enjoyment when it comes to CVs as a whole. I am someone who has always preferred doing damage from a distance as opposed to brawling it up in the middle, so it does scratch that itch. In terms of the Ranger specifically, I don’t find it any different whatsoever to the Langley. I’m not sure if that is a perception issue of my own or what, but I don’t have a lot to remark on in terms of differences.

Things I need to be more cognizant of:
1. Plane Roles: I know what each of the planes do, I know their speeds. I know that I want to focus a bit on spotting at the start to give my team the best chance at success. What I am unsure about is which planes to use in which situations or versus which classes. I think this will come with time, but I should spend some time this week taking a look at some CV resources so I can be more effective.

Clan Battles
For those of you who weren’t able to catch last week’s Community stream with Boggzy and Ahskance, we played a couple of Clan Battles on stream! This was my first experience with Clan Battles, and I still feel like I am MASSIVELY over my head, but when you have Boggzy telling you exactly what to do and where to go, it’s hard to fail. I again had to use the Moskva due to lack of Tier Xs, and since I was getting instructions on where to be and how to position myself, I feel like I learned quite a bit about how to effectively use her. You’ll notice above that I took that knowledge and applied it to my Dirigible Derby play with some mild success. While I had a blast, my takeaways are twofold: First, I really enjoy playing with others. Between these matches and the Discord event from a few weeks back, I found that I get the most enjoyment from divisioning up. Second, I can’t wait to have a Tier X BB to take into Clan Battles sometime!

I think that about covers it this week! See you next week for some more New Player musings. Fair winds and following seas!

I'm taking this into account now and finding some low-key success with it. We shall see how it goes for the rest of the week!

Suppose I should have been clearer. I meant in how she's played and what she offers in comparison to the Langley.

The more I try to use the torp bombers occasionally the more that I find that I agree with you. I mainly use them for spotting/poking then swap to something more useful after I have a target/targets.

We talked about this in a previous week. I brought up the fact that it doesn't seem to be as used across players that I am familiar with, but I do like having the rudimentary knowledge of who is paying attention to me. I think once I grow more comfortable with the game, I will probably abandon PT. But for now, it's helping me with positioning.
