Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

Also, as I was playing catch-up from my recent trip, I do want to apologize that this week’s log is shorter than usual. However, I did not want to miss another week of engaging with y’all so I wrote about what I could!

Without further ado, let’s proceed with Week 19!

Accomplishments
It is VERY limited, but here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:

1. Played the Public Test server for the first time
2. Played my first match using a submarine

Focus Points of the Week
I had just one very simple focus point for this week:

1. Try out the Public Test server and investigate new changes for myself

Introduction to the Public Test Server Ships: U-69, Baltimore (I think), Connecticut (I think)

As a Community Manager who has a strong desire to learn all of the aspects of the game as I can, I decided that this week would be the perfect week for me to try out the Public Test Server for the first time. There are a lot of interesting changes and features that are coming within the next patch, and I wanted to be able to get hands on with them myself before waiting for them to go live in the next patch. First, I am in LOVE with the Faroe Islands map. It’s gorgeous (art team keeps on winning), and I can see a lot of potential for fun, interesting matches and game types that can be hosted on this maps.

Second, I also took the opportunity to try out a submarine for the first time. A while back, @Ahskance gave me a good overview of how submarines are meant to function, but it was certainly interesting to get my own hands on them. My first instinct is a simple one: I need to play more to understand how best to use them. I went into the match with a preconceived notion of what I need to do (sneak up and blast) based on clips and posts I have seen from other players, and I utterly failed. This can be attributed to a few things. First, there were reticle changes that were being tested in this round that make it so the “shotgun blasting” strategy is harder to pull off. Second, I only played a few matches and I just don’t have a good grasp on them yet. I’ll be sure to try them out more in the future to get a better understanding of my thoughts!

Lastly, I took a few cracks at some other ships that have caught my eye in the past. First, I played a couple matches in the Baltimore (I think, I know it started with a B). She’s seems to be a gun boat type of cruiser who benefits more from long range, which sort of fits my current play style. I am excited to experiment with her more! The second ship I tried (I think, again I don’t fully remember) was the Connecticut. She seemed to be a fun, durable BB with a bit of zip! I don’t have much to report on her as I don’t have a lot of experience at this tier, but she may be a ship I target in the future.

I think that about covers it this week! I want to remind everyone that the New Player Captain’s Log is also designed to be a place for new players to reply with their experiences or seek advice as well, so feel free to join in on the conversation below!

See you next week for some more New Player musings. Fair winds and following seas!
