12500 Base XP is hardly an unreasonable threshold to unlock a rental period.
If there was no threshold, people could just open the game, hop in a sub without any context, and derp their way into the first BB they see and come to the forums going "This sucks"!!! This is not a good way to collect actual data or feedback. With a threshold of BXP, folks that play the game a decent amount will be able to test them.
Simple!

Careful what you wish for. The first iteration this year had no ASW for everyone and the sentiment to that was horrible.

Keep in mind that anything approaching 20kn speed is basically like driving around a USS Texas or New York at tiers 8 and 10. At least those ships can project fire over objects at 18k+
Not having a decent speed means a ship class that requires direct line of sight and no objects in the way is further limited.
I encourage you to play some submarines and then suggest that the speed should be nerfed.

I take your feedback. Thanks!

Amazing to me that none of you have mentioned in this thread that the single strongest counter to a submarine is....
The CV...
CV spots a sub on surface. Botes shoot at sub.
Sub goes below periscope to avoid shells. Battery drains rapidly while CV lights it.
Submarine goes to max depth to avoid detection from CV. Now it's incapable of spotting or attacking.
Basically, if a sub gets spotted by a CV, it has to either risk damage or become impotent.
Bring on the CV's ???

I disagree that they are a "simple" class.
There is a large disparity between a good CV player and a bad CV player.

I get why people think CV's are "easy" in the sense that you are not as vulnerable to damage in your CV as the poor souls getting dunked on, but I wouldn't call CV's "simple".

I don't think you can reasonably say that any more than you can say that for any randoms player.
How about the Vampire 2 that smokes up for 2 minutes to farm? He's not spotting for anyone... he's just farming damage and kills for himself.
How about the Thunderer in the back? He's not spotting, he's just farming damage and trying to get kills...
And that Smolensk? ... well.... I don't know if you remember pre-commander-rework, but a Smolensk could farm HE fires from smoke at 19km.
My point is just that CV's are often attributed motives that the other classes do as well. Careful where you aim your pitchforks.

Well, Subs are still in testing. They aren't really "available" in the game at present, as there are no tech-tree lines or premiums to "own". So, that's a definite Nope! in terms of KotS~

---

As for CVs, KotS used to have them until shortly after the CV Rework. They did a tourney with the Reworked Carriers, but it was during a time of heavy, heavy iteration. CVs were being changed drastically and competitive players requested CVs be witheld from the next tourney to avoid having to try and plan around unknown and constant balancing/changes. After that, the players voted to keep KotS as BB/CA/DD, and it has stayed that way since~

Not really. There's been a consistent anti-CV sentiment among higher-end players for years. Carriers can reveal deployments as well as threaten isolated positioning.

There was a Dev Blog posted earlier today about a Test involving spotting with CVs. Carriers are still being iterated on as we work to get them where they need to be on the whole.
