The AI is able to do perfect placement, so the biggest factor is more in the timing of your juke. You can watch the planes and see when they lock in their reticle position as the planes split into two different parts.

I find that learning the distance allows you to cut your engine/rudder at or .1 second before that time to allow for quite successful jukes. That is demonstrated in the videos above as the challenge is to take all three caps without use of smoke against the AI CV.
