It literally says “ONE of the codes is for you”.

I’d say that’s about as clear as can be! Happy Holidays!

Sounds like we should have clarified that only one of the codes can be redeemed per user.

Stuff like that can get lost when trying to be succinct. Thanks for the feedback!

Yep, we’re still humans at the end of the day. Happy Holidays!

For those interested, when Codes are created they are made in a batch. It could be a batch of 5, or 50, or 500,000. Whatever the size is, that's what gets generated.

There is a setting to allow only a certain number of Codes from a batch to be redeemed. In this case, it looks like it was set to "1".

The wording in the message about "Your Personal Code" isn't actually a code that is specifically keyed to your account only... it's more a bit of salesmanship as people are going to want to Redeem a code they're given.

The second code is a thing for you to provide to someone you know, which is going to have more of a "friend that hasn't played in a while" style of feel to it... because the folks that are currently playing already got a code.

---

It might have been more conceptually correct to generate 2 batches, instead.

One batch with 1 Redeem for the "Personal" code area,

while the "Share" code also had a single Redeem.

That would have aided active players having a code and getting a code from another active player. However, it wouldn't stop a player from simply redeeming both codes to their own account... which would defeat the purpose :(

Either way, wording weirdness or no... Free is still Free, and it's good to keep perspective on that.

Sure, it could have been improved upon. Still, this is about a free code redemption, so let's all please keep perspective on the situation.

I suppose I have a question then. What do you feel needs to happen to make up for your bad experience?

So in the future, we could instead just send everyone a single code? Like the "2022HAPPYNYCOMMANDERS" code.

That would allow the recipient to redeem one code, and be able to share to as many people as haven't claimed it yet.

That would make for a more understandable situation, yes?

Effectively it would be the same, but I think that would be more intuitive. And easier to describe in the email, too.

So...
This thread's title started as a sarcastic dig because the free stuff we gave out wasn't enough.
That's where we're starting here.
Clearly there is something to be learned about how we phrase things - but I'd like to remind everyone that this was something we did for free to be nice and to thank you all for playing. It feels weird on our end when this is met with sarcasm and derision. It almost makes me want to say in the future, "I recommend against giving out free things like this because there's the risk that we overlook something trivial and our gesture of goodwill is somehow taken as a slight. Best to just not do it". I don't think that's what people want - but that's how it can feel sometimes.
The obvious answer is that we should just add the line next time that says, "Only 1 code of any type can be redeemed per user". That's the obvious takeaway - but I really dislike coming through these threads and seeing people that are legitimately criticizing the manner in which they get something for free. It's like tasting ash in the mouth.
Take that for what it's worth.

We're still human beings. We could come in and have a real conversation with you like humans or we could give you some corporate platitudes.
As a player, I much prefer a real person to come in and have a real conversation about it, which includes responsibility on both sides.
Sure, we could make the boundaries of a free gift more clear.
Players who notice that boundary could also recognize that it is a free gift and not come in with scorn and ridicule.
Community Managers are the humans in front of the business. I will absolutely hold the company responsible for your criticisms, but I will also make it clear when I think a community member is acting in bad faith.
Two-way street, brother!

The additions will pop up in the notification center tab at the bottom right of your port UI. You'll see tabs for "Battles" and "Notifications". Under notifications you'll see a variety of actions in the history, and the gifts will be listed there :)

Hmm... That's interesting.
I'll see what comes out of that code - thanks for asking!
