You are correct. I don't understand why I'm being told that that we're insulting people for creating challenge missions.
Challenge missions are designed to be attainable, but hard to achieve. In many cases, they may NOT be achieved. Currently there's a Novorossiysk mission looking for a 2700+ Base XP win. I have no idea what percentage of the playerbase will complete that mission, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in single digit percentages.
To me, the idea that challenges exist and may not be achieved is ok. While I'm a bit OCD about finishing all my combat missions, I've learned when some are explicitly designed to be outliers. Those, I just commit to myself that I'm not doing them, like with the 2700 Base XP mission.
I will reference this later, so please remember your thoughts from reading this section.
You're going to have to describe "support".
Do you mean Co-Op only missions/events? Things that only exist for players that do Co-Op?
The reason I ask for that description is because Co-Op can provide for the entire gaming experience from Tier 1 to Tier 10. You can attain Coal Ships, In-Game Event Ships, and researchable ships though Co-Op only methods. This can all be done without any payment from the player. It is a fully free-to-play experience.
The only resource it cannot provide on its own is Steel, which means some "grindable" ships are not available in a Co-Op Only format. Dockyard events with buyouts and in-game events can award Steel through playing Co-Op Battles, but natively that isn't a resource is provides. Worth noting that Random Battles and Operations also have this limitation, so it's not a Co-Op only limitation.
The problem is that you are requesting a "grind" format. The 1k Base XP is a "challenge" format. It's not a big challenge as 1k Base XP can be attained on a loss in Random Battles, but it's more like to happen with a win even on a mediocre game. Wins do confer a 50% Base XP bonus.
There will be "challenge" missions that happen because some players enjoy being challenged. Others players do not. The idea isn't that Every player must complete Every mission, but rather that people will find they have things that suit them and interest them enough to strive for. Grinders like a reason to Grind, and Achievers like to Achieve. Both playstyles exist and don't always overlap.
