To my knowledge, there isn't a dedicated Submarine content creator at this time so I don't have a cool YouTube link to provide.

Map Positioning can often take two forms:

You can play frontline-esque and support an allied Destroyer. You can use your surface detection glimpse consumable to help spot/ping enemy DD's that use smoke while relying on your DD to prevent anyone from rushing your position.

You can play a backline-esque role where you act in a more independant fashion to try and surprise enemies.

There is a commander skill which gives bonus damage if you have a double-ping before you launch a torpedo, but outside of that it's personal preference.

You can launch to allow your torpedoes to spread out, then ping so they converge from multiple angles.

You can launch to allow your torpedoes to get close, then ping so they are more surprising while being able to have some homing time to aid their aim.

If you are close range and trying to launch against an enemy you want to ping (like a Submarine), you should make sure to have a ping active before you launch. Torpedoes home to a distance away from their target, so if you are close they won't have much time to home. Having an existing ping gives you as much time as possible for the homing to help.

Your Submarine detection consumable can be used at any depth and will detect Submarines at Max Depth or Periscope Depth. It's best used when you are aware that a submarine is in the area, your torps are ready to fire, and you can try to attack them as soon as possible. If you get a ping on the enemy sub and have your torpedos in the water quickly, they will use Damage Control Party. Hopefully the DCP runs out before your Submarine detection consumable does, so you can get a new ping and more torpedoes away

In general, you want to be able to be on the Surface for most of the game. Depth Timer is precious and you want to use it when you need to. Save it for hiding from enemy planes, or making attack runs against enemy ships.
