Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

With each topic I discuss, I also added a question at the end to see how y’all feel about things in comparison to how I feel. I just thought it would be an interesting way to get some discussion going!

Without further ado, let’s proceed with this week’s Log!

Accomplishments
Here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:

1. Played a few games with @Boggzy on stream as a part of the NA Community Stream
Focus Points of the Week
Here’s a list of the focus points for this week:

1. Try out/refamiliarize myself with some Tier 7-9 ships

This week, I had the pleasure of joining @Boggzy on the NA Community Stream, which I hope to do more of in the future! During this time, I took the opportunity to explore/refamiliarize myself with some battleships between tiers 7-9, since I have been focusing on tiers 5-6 primarily.

Amagi
First ship I took out on stream was the Amagi. Since I’ve heard about the popularity of Japanese BBs (plus I had recently acquired the Godzilla skin for this ship), I have been eager to try this ship out. Despite my performance, she doesn’t disappoint! She doesn’t seem to be the most durable ship, but from what I can tell she makes up for it with her speed and damage output. She doesn’t seem like the kind of ship you want to utilize as a sniper, but might be better at that medium range sweet spot to best utilize her power and speed. I’m looking forward to exploring Amagi (and the rest of the Japanese BB line) more in the future!

Question: What are your thoughts on the Japanese BB line? How does the line stack up to other researchable lines?

North Carolina
My first ever completed line was US BBs, so naturally I could not stay away from them for too long. Keeping in line with the Godzilla vs. Kong theme, I decided to roll with the North Carolina on stream as well. Since I have been hovering in tiers lower than this, it was certainly refreshing to pick up the North Carolina once again. I feel as though starting in Tiers 7 and beyond is when ships really start to take on the characteristics of the line. The North Carolina feels zippy, and while her shells are a bit floaty for my taste, I love the ability to stay protected with both armor and range. She feels particularly maneuverable and versatile, so I can easily see that this could be one of my go-to tech tree ships at this tier. Maybe a line reset will be in order soon!

Question: What is your favorite non-Premium ship at Tier 7?

Iowa
Last but not least, we took it all the way up to Tier 9 during the stream, so I just HAD to bust out the Iowa for old time’s sake. She might just be one of my favorite ships that I have played in general. She feels like a natural successor to the North Carolina; she’s got the speed, she’s got the range and she’s got the protection (as long as you don’t go broadside). Versatility is still the name of the game. I do also appreciate the fact that she has the ability to have improved AA, which seems way more important at Tier 9 than it does at lower tiers. All in all, she is just a great ship, and is probably my default boat at this tier (for now).

Question: With the most recent changes to the Vermont line, do you prefer the Montana US BB line or the Vermont US BB line and why?

I think that about covers it this week! I want to remind everyone that the New Player Captain’s Log is also designed to be a place for new players to reply with their experiences or seek advice as well, so feel free to join in on the conversation below!

See you next week for some more New Player musings. Fair winds and following seas!

I'm curious. Do you have a particular thing you can point to that says "This makes Japanese ships unusable for me?" I'd love to hear about it.
