Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

Without further ado, let’s proceed with Week 17!

Accomplishments
There’s a lot of similar things to last few weeks, but nonetheless, here’s a list of personal milestones that I hit during the week:

1. Played the German and French BB lines in Tiers 5-6
2. Played the Italian Cruiser line at Tier 4

Focus Points of the Week
Same refrain from previous weeks: my focus points for this week are largely the same, as I still want to put a lot of time into my play in lower to mid tiers before I move on to tackling higher tier play:

1. Continued exploration of the French BB line and Italian Cruiser line
2. Development of strategy and skills in low to mid tiers.
3. Focused more on how to impact the game in the most effective ways, as opposed to going out and doing the most damage/getting the most kills. Mid-Tier Play - French and German BBs Ships: Bayern, Bretagne, Normandie

This week, I continued my trek of learning some more mid-tier BBs. As opposed to previous weeks, I did not spend too much time with the Bayern, and opted instead to focus more on the French BB line. The bulk of my time was spent with the Bretagne, and I have developed a strange affinity for her. From my understanding, she seems to have decent armor and a bit of zip! Her guns are super duper floaty, but I was having some success using this to my advantage when hunting ships hiding behind islands. I also had a few really good games with her, including one where I believe I was over 120,000 damage. At Tier V, I feel like that’s pretty good (especially for me)! After a number of games, I was able to secure the Normandie as well. I played a match with her that was largely uneventful, so I don’t have a lot to share on her just yet. I’m just excited to be able to diversify myself a bit at this tier and really work on increasing my skill level!

Cruiser Exploration - Italian Cruisers Ship: Giussano

I have mentioned a lot recently that I think diversifying the classes of ships I play will help me better understand how they work and how to counter them when I am in my beloved BBs. Therefore, I decided to take a bit of a harder look at Italian cruisers this week. I only played a few rounds in the Tier IV Giussano, but I did enjoy what I have played so far! I have already discussed that I like SAP and feel like it fits my play style well, but I also appreciate being able to keep a bit of distance and fire off some strategic torps every now and then. Am I hitting things with my torps often? Certainly not! However, I really like having it as an option or a last resort if I need. I also sat down with @Ahskance a bit and discussed their functionality, and he gave me some handy tips about how Italian cruisers handle and maneuver (they can turn on a dime!) so I am excited to implement these strategies over the next week and beyond!

I think that about covers it this week! I want to remind everyone that the New Player Captain’s Log is also designed to be a place for new players to reply with their experiences or seek advice as well, so feel free to join in on the conversation below!

See you next week for some more New Player musings. Fair winds and following seas!

I like how you broke this down, honestly. I think it is very easy for new players to get overwhelmed with the size of the map and where to go and who to shoot. If we have a few simple choices from the outset that can really clear things up.

I agree! I tend to enjoy this ship, but I was unsure if it was because I was finding more success at lower tiers or if it was actually enjoyable to play. That's the struggle with these lower tier ships. I'm feeling a little validated by this though!

Thank you so much! This is very kind of you to say, and something that I didn't anticipate when I first came up with this idea. My original idea was to create a place for new players (like me) to discuss their experience/growing pains with players who know and have been there. However, it seems to have been very insightful for my fellow team members as well, as we are trying to make the game as enjoyable as possible for players of all skill levels.
