Greetings Captains,

Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.

With each topic I discuss, I also added a question at the end to see how y’all feel about things in comparison to how I feel. I just thought it would be an interesting way to get some discussion going!

Without further ado, let’s proceed with this week’s Log!

Focus Points of the Week
Here’s a list of the focus points for this week:
1. Play a few of the new ships that I obtained from Santa’s Gift Containers

Mysore
As listed above, I took this week to once again try out some new ships that I received from Santa’s Gift Containers over the holidays. One ship that caught my eye was the Mysore, as I have a fascination with the Commonwealth ships and wanted to see if this would be a comfortable cruiser for me to play. I gotta say, I did not get a good grasp on how to best effectively play her. The smoke was definitely helpful in getting out of jams, but I found myself struggling to make a significant impact when it came to damaging other ships. I’m not sure if it was because they angled really well to me or if I was just not aiming well, but the few games that I played her in I felt as though I didn’t make much of a difference. After reading up a bit on the ship, I saw that some other players feel as though you can be a bit more aggressive with the Mysore, which might have clashed with my more reserved play style. I may take her out again soon and see if I can make some adjustments.

Question: Since the Mysore is a different version of the Fiji, which ship did you prefer and why?

Texas
The second ship that I spent some time with this week felt particularly appropriate, as I love my BBs and I live in Texas not terribly far from where she is currently docked! Now the first thing that my research into the ship showed me was that Texas has a ridiculous AA suite for a Tier V ship. I don’t have too much to say about that as I didn’t have any significant or memorable CV play in the few matches that I tried her out. What I will say is that it seems like she can pack a decent punch artillery-wise (though her guns do feel a bit sluggish) when they do hit, but her accuracy can be a bit rough at times. She seems decently well armored, though I did have to go broadside more than I wanted to just to get her guns trained on my target. All in all, seems like a decent little ship for the tier! If I am hunting around for a lower tier BB for some reason, I can see myself gravitating towards the Texas.

Question: Do you feel that the Texas’s significant AA is enough of a perk for you to choose her over the New York?
I think that about covers it this week! I want to remind everyone that the New Player Captain’s Log is also designed to be a place for new players to reply with their experiences or seek advice as well, so feel free to join in on the conversation below!

See you next week for some more New Player musings. Fair winds and following seas!
